No wonder TRU's go out of business, they're only making 99 cents per GI Joe they don't have to sell

Joes have always been $9.99 at TRU and $7.96 at Walmart in Canada. *sniff*
Considering that our dollar is pretty much at par with the US dollar, you can see how much your northern brethren are hurting. |

This is all garbage. They are just price gouging us and its very obvious.
1. its only at Target, (for now) 2. other lines arent going up in price. 3. Joe prices were at $4.84 just a few months ago, they have gone up and every thing else has stayed the same. I can go to walmart and get a 3 pack of CORPS figures for $4, i can get a huge CORPS vehicle for $10, I can get a ninja turtle figure for $6 still, and a BEN 10 for the same price. and so on and so on. I think its funny the CORPS figure 12 pack, or maybe it has 15 figures i dunno, anyways its $9.87 A GI Joe night watch 5 packs is $25.99 wtf?? If Hasbro is saying the price of plastic is going up, then they must be buying plastic from Osama Bin Ladin himself, because other toy company arent affected by this sudden increase in plastic prices. I understand gas is going up and up and up, and that also reflects on everything that companys deliver, but $3+ hike on these figs? Its funny that as people became more aware of these figures, and the fan base grew and people wanted more and more the prices went up. If Ninja Turtles were this popular, would they be at $15 a piece by now? Maybe the huge increase in Joe prices is balancing out the commercial retail industry? Maybe if it wasnt for the hike in Joe prices a gallon of milk would cost $7.99 or some potato chips would be $14.99? who knows. Last edited by Jism83; 07-08-2008 at 08:33 AM.. |

I think some of you may have some disallusions about making toys and costs, but most of you have valid points about the price being too high at Target.
First, let me address the $4.84 price. I think that price was simply an introductory price for the beginning of the 25th figures. Remember, many of the molds were instantly reused to keep costs down. Also, they wanted to see how well it would sell and a low price point to start with would ensure Valor vs Venom wouldn’t happen again. Star Wars figures have less articulation (commonly) and are usually around $5.49 to $6.99. The special “Vintage” Star Wars figures were $9.99 due to enhanced articulation on each figure. Joe figures are enhanced articulation across ALL figures. A consistency I like a lot. I’m betting the standard price based on sculpting, re-use of molds and all other costs involved should cause the MSRP of single Joe figures to be about $6.49 to $6.99 . I know that gas prices are killing everything, but that should NOT cause the price to go up more than 50¢ a figure. Also, I know it has been posted what Target and TRU are paying for these figures and it is possible the prices are true. Remember, there are TONS of Target stores around the US and even if they pay the same price as TRU, they still win because they order and sell more Volume. But honestly, until Target, TRU or Hasbro execs decide to post what they pay for a figure, I’ll take it with a grain of salt. As far as Hasbro making figures for less than a dollar, Remember, Hasbro is a Business, they have their costs, but also have to sell their items to MAKE money. I can totally believe that they make dollars per figure as it does cost a lot to run the company (Insurance costs anyone?), not just make the figures. I agree that Target is gouging on a popular line that will sell no matter what. As much as we complain, someone is going to pay that price because they cannot live without the figures. Hasbro is our only hope of talking Target into dropping the price of the figures and that is slim at best. We may just have to wait this out and see what Target does as well as Wal-Mart. If Wal-Mart holds steady at $6.84 per figure, they will win a bunch of brownie points with us and will make more sales. If that holds, Target may be forced to lower their price if the figures start to pegwarm. Then again, they may just be setting up for a sale. We will have to see. As far as Hasbro sending out coupons to annoyed customers, it is simply a way for them to “try” and fix the situation and that is all most of us want. The bad part is, is that it is a temporary fix with no long term solution being offered. My recommendation is to stop asking Hasbro what figures they are making in the Q&A sessions (they are doing a bang-up job IMHO in that department) and to start asking Hasbro what can be done to stop the large amount of price changes and settle on one price that Target, Wal-Mart and TRU will hold to. If we can work that out, I’ll bet we’ll all be happy (and the moaners will still moan, because that is what they do, no biggie). That’s my 2¢. Thanks for listening. Drew |

sadly, i'd say it's onyly a matter of time before our prices are on par with yours unless a retailer takes the bold initiative to change the status quo.

hey guys. Just got my letter in the mail today from Hasbro. It basically says the same old stuff about "thanks for your input, we have passed it along to those that work in that dept, blah..blah..blah, and they attached one (1) coupon for $3 off.. Yes you read that right, one coupon. I guess thats better than nothing though.
