Okay, here is a thread dedicated to that PIMP himself, Destro.
So, it seems like a lot of people are looking to get either a gold head or a silver head one. I am one of the lucky ones that managed to get a hold of both before the price skyrocketed. I noticed that people seem to be only willing to pay $10 - $20 for the silver one and less than $100 for the gold head. Currently on ebay they go for about $70 for silver and around $300 for gold. I AM NOT SELLING MINE, but if I were, would I want 10 bucks or 70? 100 or 300 bucks. Am I way off here? What's your thoughts. |

some people's thinking is that since you bought yours for ten dollars, then you shouldn't have any issues with selling it for around the same price. weird.

Greed. That's the American way. I personally had an opportunity to get the figure last year at cost from HasbroShop and passed as I never liked the figure. I would definitely not pay $300 for it just cuz a very fickle collector market says its worth $300. Why am I so cynical on the collector market. I have been collecting for over 20 years. Less than 15 years ago, collectors would pay $75 - $100 bucks for a new Power of the Force Princess Leia figure. Now its worth about $1.50 on ebay. My wife paid $50 for a Beanie Baby Derby horse in 1998. Today On ebay it sells for .99 cents. So, when you buy that Gold Destro today at $300 will it keep its value in 10 years. Or will ebay finally see the value back to $10? This is why I now collect for fun and retail only. If I miss it, I don't need it. Just like the loose Yellow Stalker going for a $100 bucks. HUH!! WTF.

Nail on the head man. I paid $90 for a MOC amanaman a while bacl, luckily ebay hasnt killed that guy yet. I collect to collect though, i do it just for me. Nothing makes me happier then to wake up in the morning, make a cup of coffee and chill in my toy room for a bit. Good times. Toys are a big part of my life I think the whole $300 + for a figure that just came out is garbage anyways. I can understand pay a few bucks for something thats 20-30 years old, but when just a year ago they sold for $10 it just doesnt seem right. Granted, supply and demand i mean i can walk into a store and see a Silver PDD or Piper on the shelf (if i did i would sh!t in the isle) I would say maybe $30 for gold, and $50 or $60 for the silver is a fair price. $300-$500 though? gimme a break Last edited by Jism83; 07-01-2008 at 10:57 PM.. |

whether gold PDD is 300 dollars or 10 dollars, it doesn't matter to me. I want one because i'm trying to be a completist with this new Modern Era articulation. Gold PDD is the only one I dont have yet. Got the black Timber, yellow Stalker, a few silver PDDs, GungHo and Shipwreck variants as well. Just need Gold PDD. I'll get his some day...i'm just being patient.

Personally I had never heard about the original PDD, so the 25th Anniversary version was my first introduction to the figure. I thought it was completely ridiculous looking, so I had to pick one up. Luckily I did this early on before the prices kept rising and rising.
I think the Beanie Baby example that Knighthart mentioned is a good example of why toys are not a good investment. The rising prices and huge changes in value reminds me of the classic "tulip mania" example from the 1600s (?). But that is about markets, lets get back to the figure itself. It is hilarious. Less of a pimp and more of a clown. The outfit and gold head are much more visually appealing to me then this year's exclusive figure. I love the vulgar colors and the whole decadent scheme. A favorite of my collection. I'm headed to the SDCC this year and I would find it amazing if someone came dressed as PDD. |

there is one reason why (other than completism) people want it....it's a highly sought-after rare collectible, period. You don't want to pay it's market value, but when you get one, you want to display and refer to it as such.
