So, I'm on the fence. I wonder if there are any like me? I have everysingle figure released for the GI Joe 25th anniversary line period. (that does not inculde variants like black timber and such, I don't really want double figures.
Anyway, I see 2 figures that elude me. The SDCC Destro and Rowdy Piper. Should I consider my collection incomplete because I do not have these guys? I know Destro is a CC exclusive, but hell...I could dump $100 and buy him off E-Bay... But should I? And! What about this scraper figure Roddy Pipper... He has a 25th logo I've seen on his package yet he isn't made with the same figure molds as the new 25th characters... Hmmm =COBRACOFFEE

well to say you have the whole collection you kind of have to have all the varients and exclusive but in a way you have the whole collection. i personally thaught roddy piper was gay and wouldnt waste the money on him but if you want to spend 300 plus on him go for it.
the only reason i dont see paying that much money for these figures is because whose to say there going to still hold there value down the road. but its all what its worth to you. |

There's no way I'll be buying the figures you mentioned (I don't want them, but if I did, I couldn't afford them anyway!), yet I still consider my 25th collection as 'complete' as I want it to be.

I only consider stuff you can buy in a store the official 25th line. The others are just kind of bonuses if you want them.
If they released a VvV figure with a 25th logo would you have to get it? Or would you be like... Hasbro you whore! Stay away from my wallet.

SDCC Destro, yeah, maybe. He's an exclusive, and basically just a repaint of the regular Destro, so I wouldn't consider him essential, but I'm glad I got one. It's just the silver version, but whatever - that's what PDD is supposed to look like anyway.
Rowdy Roddy Piper - hell no. That figure is a "new sculpt". I would only consider getting him if I was a collector of the Spytroops/Valor Vs. Venom/DTC line (or maybe a wrestling fan), and I'm not. If you're a MOC collector I could see making a case for this figure, but even then it's a stretch. |

they are both part of the 25th line, yes. if you can find a gold SDCC DESTRO "for 100.00" as you claim, you'll be lucky, because they dont' go for less than $300.00,and at one time over $400.00.
The Piper won't go for less than $400.00, and yes, he is essential to complete a 25th collection! |

I agree, the stuff you buy in the store is the collection. Any con exclusive is extra. I was this way with star wars but I managed to get EVERY figure that was made on all the cards. I got all the con pieces and major variants. I do believe that my collection would be complete without them.

My collection is as complete as i want it to be and i don't have any variants or Piper, or the sdcc Destro. I have one of each figure that was released at retail and the Target and TRU exclusives...In my eyes...complete...

Anyway, I also lean towards the consumer line as being the "completed". I like the SDCC Destro ( the silver or the gold really) but the Roddy Piper figure seems so....I don't know ...Make-shift... Like if Hummer made a special version of their car for SHAQ. Seems kinda specialized to be considered a collection entry. If I was collecting all things GI Joe released after 2005, maybe but I just want the nostalgia series. Roddy Piper? Do I remember him? hmmmm from where? Oh yea, That movie They live!

I used to think I needed to be a completist. I just get what I like now. There is to much coming out and with prices going up and all, to buy EVERYTHING that Hasbro produces. Especially since a lot of it is repaints or variations of the same figure. I havent purchased a complete a wave since wave 5. And even then, Im considering going back and eliminating some of the figures I have from previous waves that I dont REALLY want.
Im going to start focusing on the vintage stuff. This new 25th has gotten to be too superficial for me, meaning...it doesnt hold the same memories than the vintage figures do. For me, that is what I want my collection to be about. |
