Ok so help me out here ....
The vintage line had Heavy Metal (1985) then he was renamed Rampage (1989) and then Speed Metal (2009) was released along with Rampage (2009) as part of the Rise of Cobra line. The Heavy Metal, vintage Rampage and modern Rampage all look alike while the Speed Metal looks like none of them. Are all four figures the same person? If not, who is the Speed Metal supposed to be and who is the modern Rampage supposed to be? Is Speed Metal the modern version of Heavy Metal and Rampage the modern version of Rampage?

Heavy Metal = Rampage 89 = Speed Metal
Rampage 09 = new character.. Have a feeling they mixed up their real names in the midst of putting together the line. Similar to the Rock n Roll and Benchpress situation. Heavy Metal 85 and Rampage 89 are definitely the same. Rampage 09 should probably be the above, and Speed Metal should have been all new. I don't really take ROC filecards as canon anyway, so play it how you want. |

Heavy metal n. A type of highly amplified harsh-sounding rock music with a strong beat, characteristically using violent or fantastic imagery.
Speed metal n. Heavy metal music that is exceptionally harsh and fast. Also called thrash. Glad I could help clear that up for you.

I don't at all buy that Speed Metal is the same guy as Heavy Metal and Rampage 89 no matter what real name the file card lists. Also there's no way that Rampage 09 is a different guy than Heavy Metal or Rampage 89, they look too similar.
Despite all of this complex name confusion, Rampage 09 is actually one of my favorite ROC Joes. I think he's wonderfully executed (especially to be a vehicle driver), and actually looks better than most of the basic figures.
