After attending JoeCon this year, one thing was definitely clear...Hasbro is looking at these boards.
So it had me thinking, seeing as this years con theme was Python Patrol, and in 1989 their Joe equivalent team was Slaughter's Marauders, why don't we have these yet in ME style? I remember Hasbro saying something along the lines of the 7 pack in the works this year would "complete some people's collections" in one of the Q&As, but if that was the case then its not Slaughter's Marauders cause they never started them! Anyway, I think this would make a great convention set, or part of the subscription service, or even an internet 7 (6) pack, the best part though is all the tooling exists, and since I know Hasbro loves to get milage out of their molds, this is a great way to do it! I've thrown together a crappy photoshop mock-up just so everyone can get an idea as to what it may look like. So what do you guys think, would you like to see this as a set at some point? |

Exactly! Don't know how I missed your thread, but yeah you got it! Plus I figured with how much everyone seems to love the SDCC Slaughter and the POC Low-Light, these seem kinda like no-brainers. Plus the Claymore figure in this years con set comes with the perfect helmet to finish Footloose!

Honestly I always thought the color scheme was really odd...still do.
But and maybe this is the completist in me or maybe even the guy tired of endless slight variations on characters like the same SS mold with red trim or the same SE mold with more silver highlights saying this, but if we HAVE to see so many repaints I'd rather have repaints that at LEAST give us updates on classic figures. So yeah I'd prefer to see a Slaughters Marauders set done over say....the new Blowtorch, or slightly yellow Croc Master. Are SM figures the highest priority on what I wanna see released? No. But I'd rather buy subline repaints of existing molds than guys like yellow Croc Master.....hell I'd even rather'd they paint of Croc Master in Python colors than the needlessly yellow repaint. |

I guess the real question would be: could they use Slaughter for his Marauders?
I remember some time ago someone mentioning how Slaughter was used in his Marauder colors for an international release, but I doubt that would fly with the folks that own his likeness and already barred any releases after the SDCC one. EDIT: Found what I was referring to: http://www.yojoe.com/action/int/ind-sgtsmasher.shtml Last edited by Dod Ear; 04-16-2011 at 04:24 PM.. |

The WWE has contracts for it's former employees (or in some cases current employees) called "WWE Legends" contracts. Basically what it entails is that the WWE owns all video footage of it's wrestlers so that say they want to put together a DVD compilation of someone no longer working there, they are in their rights to do so as long as they pay them royalties, but that's it. However if the wrestler signs a WWE Legends contract, they get paid $20,000 and grant the WWE for a set period of time the exclusive rights to continue manufacturing new merchandise containing their image/persona. This could be video games, books, DVDs, action figures, etc. Becuase Sgt. Slaughter is under one of these contracts, I believe this prohibits Hasbro from releasing any figures of him in stores. However, there may be some kind of loophole to this as far as web or con exclusives go. |

Personally I'd just rename him and remove the mustache...call him the Sarge or Smasher or some such weird name.
Remove all referances to him Sgt. Slaughter or Robert Remus...he's just a guy with a big chin, hat and sunglasses. Hell even just drop the name Slaughter's from Marauders and call them G.I. Joe Marauders. I mean I'm not sure of the legalities of that but Hasbro has dodged name rights before, and as for likeness well come on POC Spirit is clearly actor Sonny Landham, but I'm sure since they never offically said that its vague enough to be just a guy who happens to look like Landham. |

I gotta say
I REALLY like their focus on unproduced and/or foreign figures/vehicles. |

I would only want this set if it includes Sgt. Slaughter.
Sure, that sounds strange, but if they can't get the license to use the Robert Remus likeness again, because another toy company might be using it right now, then this set is pointless. The other figures in those colors would be useless if old Sarge wasn't wearing them too! |

Back on main topic, jmu1330's customs have me really seeing the possibilities and if they were as well executed I'd love to pick this set up. Yes they're cheesy, but well done I'd enjoy them (not to mention a 7 pack Night Force and Tiger Force including international releases like Outback and Hit and Run and on and on...).
