Hey everyone else out there. I started collecting Joes in late 84, probably because of the 1st and 2nd mini series airing around then. I stopped when I was made fun of for being "too old to play with toys" in 87 (that cobra-la "movie" garbage didn't help). Then, some friends and I started up again in the early 90's when the toy biz X-men/Marvel figures were hot. We were grabbing up Joes because they were cheap and unpopular. I got a bunch of those, even though they stank of early 90's pop culture neon! Anyway, I have a few of the re-issue stuff from 2000 on. I was getting really excited for the DTC stuff, because of how articulate they were becoming. The DTC packages even looked close to the original.
Then this 25th line came out, and it is blowing my old collection away. My flag has been thrown from box to box (those things are going to be worth thousands complete in a few more years, they weren't made with that much care). All of my old collection is played with, and my VvsV and DTC stuff is mint. But this 25th stuff is just like giving us a chance to start fresh. I do not want to relive any portions of my life, but this has been honestly one of the best feelings someone my age could ask for. When the new Star Wars movies came out, or the Stars and Stripes toys came out... I was disappointed to a degree. The re-make trend has such a high bar, but, Hasbro is knocking it out of the park with this line of toys. I honestly feel like I'm re-living a very happy portion of my past. Now to the gripes. I know a lot of you have posted some of these many times, but these are a collection of issues that I have on my mind at the time. I thought by posting them, maybe some one will know some answers, or inside scoops, and be able to give us some insight. 1) The line really exploded in 84 with never re-used body molds and heads. Then, in the 90's, when interest was completely lost, they were repainting everything. One of the many reasons these fly off the shelves now, is that on the pegs, they remind us how they looked in the 80's. But, open a Major Blood, and he has Zartan's unique thigh pads??? I already pay 7 bucks a figure, and if you told me to pay 8 for a new mold, chances are I'll pay the extra buck. 2) I wish the waves were based on years. If they did it on "heyday", we could have the all the figures until 85. I can't name any made in those 4 years that collectors wouldn't buy up. I know that most of them are in the line, but, tiger force over Cobra Eels, Alpine, Dusty, Airtight, etc.? Not cool 3) I also hope to get a lot of figures that came out during 88-90 that were actually pretty great. Captain Gridiron, Night Viper, Repeater, Shockwave, Ambush, Rampart, Bullhorn, etc. 4) This may be greed setting in, but it would be cool to have a forum where fans get to truly pick the 25 figures that haven't been released yet.... And I don't mean that multiple choice thing Hasbro did, let the fans/buyers pick before they even make the mold. It works for the NBA (sorta), so why not Joes? Oh, and make the planes and copters and tanks and boats that everyone knows are G.I Joe. The Sky Striker is the Millennium Falcon of the Joe line... and the Flag is the holy grail. remake it!!! I bought it when I was 10, and I got a few more dollars now than I did then. Think about how many parents out there want their kids to know what it is to have the best. |

but in general, i have to agree with your opening sentiments. it's hard to explain the excitement and joy in finding this line and sharing it with your kids.

I know they made the Conquest and the Awe Striker... but, they should make the Sky Striker and Vamp 1st. Believe me, everyone will buy them all. I'm just greedy and would like to know that they are going to make all the classics. I'm having my own personal Pokemon addiction with toys from 25 years ago, yikes!!!!!

I know they re-used molds. But in 83-84 they decided to make very unique figures. Cobra had personalities like Scrap Iron, Destro, The Baroness, Firefly, Storm Shadow..... 5 years later, it was just "sandwich viper" and "q-tip viper". In 82, a beard or blond hair made each figure different. Then, in 83/84, they made Recondo, Spirit, Blowtorch, Airborn, and Torpedo.
The point I'm trying to make is that when Wet Suit is released, I can almost guarantee he will be just a torpedo re-paint. |

I agree with having each wave consist of only characters from a particular year of the vintage line. Wave 4 came the closest. It was cool seeing charcters from the same couple of years together on the pegs.

I forgot about how cool the DVD packs would have been if they came before the figures of each year. For example, wave 3 would have the MASS Device, wave 5 would have The Pyramid Of Darkness. I know that Hasbro had no clue how popular these would be, but I'd still like to see all the classic figures updated.

If the line keeps selling like it is, I'm pretty sure Hasbro will keep this thing going. They're not stupid.
