As the new line moves forward, we're seeing new versions of characters fromlater on in the line. Eventually Hasbro will get to the late 80s/early 90s, an era of GI Joe toys I think of as Batman-Inspired-Neon-Deco-Apocalypse.
Should Hasbro forego new versions of characters from this era, bring the figures out with decos inspired by the original garish schemes, or tone down the deco so that the figures do not look utterly ridiculous? Examples that immediately come to mind are the Alley Viper, Alley Viper II, and Night Creeper My opinion is that Hasbro should go ahead with modern versions of figures such as these, but go with more realistic deco schemes. Hasbro could do much worse that to use color schemes much like the 2004 Cobra Strike Force-Urban Division sets. The Night Creeper from this set is particularly nice; it's probably my all time favorite original RAH figure. Camo containing nice Cobra dark blue is made of win (Pssst, Hasbro: do a Firefly repaint in this scheme)! (I particularly love specialty Vipers and I would hate to see... unfortunate original deco choices keep them out of the modern line.) Last edited by metaphorge; 05-22-2008 at 06:33 AM.. |

Repaint em all!!! LoL j/k i would say keep them close to original as possible, if they didn't it would derail the whole line in a different direction....

I say keep them as close as possible to the originals but give us some of the more desireable cobras repainted in a 5 pack of Night-watch type colors or something that fits the theme of the figures. I mean gimmie a 5-pack with say, 3 Alley vipers & 2 heat vipers (trying to think of some of the "loudest" colored figures) & repaint them in urban cammo colors & I think it would sell well. I would still want them in the original look as well.

I like the idea of modern, but like wraith said, in a smaller set, stick to the original. Sure, you might not want to troop build bright orange alley vipers, but you know you still want at least one. And for the Joes, just bring on the Night Patrol. That should be a pretty close to modern tactical look for the gang.

They shouldn't remake them at all in my opinion, lol. They are pretty much what killed G.I. Joe for me. But if they do remake them they should follow the formula they have been using which is make them as close to the original as possible yet in the 25th style. That is the whole spirit behind this line after all.

I don't know, as crazy as the Alley Vipers colors are I really like them the way they are. I mean not all of the figures from that era need to be reproduced in glaring colors or even at all, but I think A-Viper needs to retain his Mets color scheme.

Kill it with fire?
No, they'll never remake anything neon. I think they're gonna be pushing themselves to make much from 87 onward. Still a few things to finish from 82-85. |

Nightcreeper was a dark color to begin with, so hes good. Alleyvipers could simply be toned down using a deeper "burnt" orange and navy to retain the look of the original without the 80's feel.

Just do what they did with Gung Ho - make it in the original colour scheme, but tone down the colours.
For example, they should definitely do a Sci Fi, but mute the original green so that it's a more drab light green - not traditional army olive drab, but you know what I mean. They should definitely do Alley Vipers and Night Creepers, those were great army-builders. |
