STING RAIDER (Jungle Assault):
An all new mold released in 2009, the “Sting Raider” is a direct homage to the original ARAH “Water Moccasin.“ Beefier than the original & ready for action, it was a real sweet move by the ME Joe’s creative staff to give fans back a classic vehicle, only new & improved. Sadly the vintage colored 1st release had dropped towards the end of the Modern Era line & many fans missed out on this love letter of machinery from Hasbro. Well the good news is that the Sting Raider is back as a TRU exclusive in 2010 so fans are getting their 2nd shot at this well made vehicle. Decked out in new “Jungle Assault” colors the ‘10 Sting Raider is colored with a forest green, a faded swamp green, & a deep burgundy. You may think by the pics that you’ve seen that the color on this is more red or pink, but I can assure you that it is more of a maroon/burgundy coloration & could easily fit in with colors you’d see on swamp plant life in nature. In fact it has TONS more paint than the initial release & that only brings out the detail more. As you see even things like the canopy & wires are painted to give this thing even more bite. This scheme may have been inspired by the Brazilian released repainted Water Moccasin “Hidroélice De Emboscada” which had the maroon coloration but that is only speculation on my part. New details & classic fan aesthetics where molded into this water devil as it still includes the things you remember from 1984 only with modern day sculpting standards. You have the hand activated spinning fan, the rotating gun turret, removable canopy, removable engine cover, weapons storage, steering fan veins, & the nicely revised surface torpedo (made with a darker clear tone here) that slides into the rear hull. Bigger is better for the modern age, & you will find that this updated Cobra water vessel looks great with the current figures. With 2 cockpits & 6 ME pegs, you can make your Sting Raider fully loaded with troops. OT: As with all G.I.*Joe vehicles, using your own best estimate of label placement when stickering up your Sting Raider is advised. This Sting Raider actually comes with an extra 4 stickers (2 of each). The back of the box shows the placement of 2, while the other 2 has a placement where the vehicle is already pre-stickered in box. So the final placement usage will be at your own discretion. If you missed out the 1st time (or don’t want to pay online prices) to fetch yourself an original ME Sting Raider, you should strongly consider the POC Jungle Assault Sting Raider. It may not be the colors you remember, but you may find what looks on your monitor to be color shock is actually colored cool in person. It comes with both Copperhead & a Swamp Viper for a very reasonable $19.99 msrp, & you will not want to miss this new alternative!! Last edited by Steel Brigade; 12-28-2023 at 05:00 PM.. |

COPPERHEAD (Jungle Assault): Made from the same mold update as the Python Patrol version of Copperhead (updated hands/leg gear), this is our 4th installment of the Everglades Trash Drifter in 2 years. 25th & ME brought Copperhead in his 2 classic ARAH colorations (original & a “take” on the Python Patrol motif)... and in the very recent Walmart exclusive 2-pack version, we see CH decked out with a load of weapons & in a color swap of the same basic colors we saw with his Python Patrol version, (this time to be fitted in either your Resolute or ROC universe). For this release we see CH in a crocodile green, warm gray, & black deco w/a slightly darker caucasian skin tone. Original & totally evil looking, this version has one of his better palettes to date. Copperhead comes with the same rifle we saw on the ROC Viper Commando (single release), his trusty machete, & a ROC stand.
Fans my gripe about a 4th CH release, but in my head, this guy should always be coming with the Water Moccasin (Sting Raider). Use your Walmart 2-pack CH in Resolute & get this guy in your POC/ROC displays. Last edited by Steel Brigade; 12-28-2023 at 05:00 PM.. |

SWAMP VIPER: The Air Viper Commando has been renamed appropriately for this release as “Swamp Viper.” Of much debate with this release is the similarity in color to Target’s ex. AV Commando. And although the color is very similar, I can safely say that this one is slightly better. Although not as muted as the AV Commando, the tan color of the jumpsuit is replaced with the same warm gray as what is found on the JA Copperhead. But what is more striking is the muted emerald green on the AV Commando is replaced here with a vivid yellow green type of “flip-flop” paint you normally only see used on cars. This gives Swamp Viper a unique sheen in the light, as the speckled paint will catch reds & oranges giving it a warm metallic feel, & it looks great with the metallic orange visor!
Made from the same reboot construction as Target’s exclusive ROC AV Commando release, the Swamp Viper is the updated AVAC construct of the HISS TANK Driver‘s body & belt, Zartan legs, & the very dynamic Resolute Trooper arms. He comes equipped with his trusty nanomite knife, & a MARS Trooper rifle. TRU exclusives keep bringing the most value for your dollar in what maybe choosey collectable times. In a solid effort to get the Sting Raider back on the market, this repaint is offered with 2 figures at a great price. You won’t want to miss this one as I can guarantee you the online photos have not given it the justice it deserves, as it’s a very sleek deco on a very much needed rerelease. Highly Recommended. I was lucky enough to find a Sting Raider, but I'm still getting two of these to go on each side of it.
I do have to say I hate the Swamp Viper as much as I hate the Target Air Viper. That's an AVAC head, it belongs on an AVAC pilot and no one else dammit! It's not like it's a neat looking head to begin with, they could have given the Swamp Viper a cobra trooper head, Resolute Trooper head, Viper Head, hell even a HISS driver head would have been fine with me. And yet they give him those awesome Resolute Trooper arms that hold any weapon perfectly. Awesome review & great pics, especially the one contrasting it with the original Sting Raider. |

Swamp viper: Yes.
The rest: Not so much. I wish they would have done a green hiss tank driver, croc master, or Lamprey. Green avac makes no sense! |

Great Review SB!
But i don't like this pack at all. The Moccasin looks awful in those colours, and the Conehead Viper looks hideous...it is a collection of the parts i hate most. No thanks for me. (btw, the comparison pics are really useful, awesome work)
