I looked back a few pages but couldn't find a review of this set, so here we go. My TRU got a few of these in and I scooped up a Cobra set. Sorry no pics. :(
For some reason the Neo-Viper is listed on the figure stand and on the packaging and filecard as a "Viper Commando". I don't know if this was a mistake, or some retconning on Hasbro's part. He sports a new paint job, with medium grey and black with a glossy metalic blue armor and a black helmet with a silver wash bringing out the details. The eyes are a flat red, and would've benefitted by the same kind of red used for the Crimson Neo-Viper. All his accessories are the same as the carded Neo-Viper (minus the missle launcher), just with a grey backpack and black weapons. The new color scheme isn't a terribly attractive combination, but not garishly so. The Elite Viper is now sporting a brownish grey suit with a blueish grey armor. His visor is the same flat red as the Neo Viper and his SMGs are silver. The red paint-ap on his visor is a definite improvement over the carded figure, but again, it looks too flat and cartoony. Again, he doesn't include the missle launcher of the carded version. The Elite Viper manages to look as good, if not better than the carded version. The real star of this set, IMHO, is Destro. His sculpt is exactly the same as the RoC W1 carded version, but the blue coat with red trim makes him stand out so much better than the drab grey. It took awhile to get used to the realistic eyes, but he is now my default Destro and is an excellent update to the character, and manages to look both dignified and ready for a fight. He comes with the two-piece rifle, hand blaster, and pistol in his chest holster. One complaint is that the straps on the holster of put on underneath the epulets on his shoulders, which raises them up too much and might warp them. It's easy to fix with a little effort, but some more care could have gone into packaging. All in all, with single carded figures running for $8 a pop, this set is an extremely good deal for the $15 retail I found it for. The only thing missing are the launchers, and I doubt anyone here will complain about that. All around score, 7 out of 10. |

I love the Destro body...makes a killer CG twin body with no paint work needed.
