No it really doesn't. G.I. Joe is a kids line. The collector oriented 25th line was a fluke that was well documented ie it was supposed to only be two 5 packs. Wal-Mart and Target are were the toy $$$$ are and neither really sells many toys just geared towards collectors. Hasbro wants kid money for the Joe line. If we are lucky we will get a few collector themed items, but I just don't think we will ever see a line like the 25th again.

I mean c'mon, they wasted production on a set that no one wants, why?
The clearance aisles at Target and Wal-mart will be stocked to the brim with RoC Merchandise early next year because its stuff that us collectors do not favor. I'm willing to bet the Night Ravens will clearance for $6.00 or cheaper just like those ugly behind Python patrol and Tiger Force Rattlers and Conquest X-30s. Thanks Hasbro for constantly disappointing your loyal fan base who would BUY, I mean fork out crap loads of dollars to retailers that stock your product only if you give them what they want. I know you guys are idiots because you shelved excellent products like a new Jet, that were prototyped for production then had the nerve to show us them at Joe Con last month. These figures are nothing new for Hasbro to make so why will they retail for anything over $20 is far beyond my comprehension. Kids are not going to buy RoC merchandise pass Halloween because of the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow costumes so why continue to market towards them so heavily? The figures are going stale like month old potato chips and retailers can't stock the new if the old isn't moving. I'm no expert in the business strategy that is being made by Hasbro, but why mass produce high priced merchandise that won't sell? Isn't it blatantly obvious that this recession is hitting our pocket so hard that everyone is cutting back on novelty items/entertainment just to survive? Just my two cents... The fact is that kids are buying the SE cosplay sets. I've seen it with mein own eyes, and a lot of tankers here. People who work at Target have posted the figures that totally fly in the face of all the haters' supposed "logic". They ARE selling. Get over it already! If GI Joe was marketed only to collectors, we'd have another pile of shit like Mattycollector and the MotU line, overpriced, underproduced, and poor quality control. Won't sell due to collectors not buying? WHAT ARROGENCE! It's not just a ridiculous statement, it's bad comedy! There are a vast number of collectors on this board, myself included, who have bought and supported RoC toys, so who exactly are you speaking for? And how much of the market do you really think we collectors make compared to the kids out there? 25th was a hit due to artificial scarcity, and is still pegwarming in places! RoC is consistantly outselling 25th at every turn, and it drives the haters out of their skulls (always a plus). And for the record, the entertainment industry has historically been the one recession-proof industry. Now you know. |

Umm...MotUC isn't shit. It's actually doing well and selling out on every damn figure. Matty has the right idea, if anything. I'd rather buy a $20 He-Man figure that is damn near identical to the original, only better...than buy a cheap-looking, cheap plastic-using figure for cheap.

The right idea? It's not even close to the right idea. The only reason they're doing it this way is because of how badly they failed when they had a chance to reboot the franchise. Last edited by Zefram; 08-27-2009 at 09:13 PM.. |

Because they produce about half of what the demand is, which leads to massive stampede, which leads to artificial inflation, which leads to a scalpers paradise on ebay. Also, I've heard MASSIVE complaints about breakages in the package. Not as bad as McToys, but then if you want a replacement, you have to ship it back AT YOUR EXPENSE!
The right idea? It's not even close to the right idea. The only reason they're doing it this way is because of how badly they failed when they had a chance to reboot the franchise. That is because it's directed at collectors. That's why the number is limited. Yes, they under produce....I, myself, have been pissed that I missed a figure. But patience is a virtue I've found some pretty good deals. If Hasbro had a Collectors division of their company, and kept the 25th/modern line going with damn near identical, updated interpretations of the classic figures, with the classic packaging, and sold them for $10? I'd buy that instantly.
