I begin a 3-part review series on the 2018 G.I. Joe convention Slaughter's Marauders Renegades. First up is Red Dog:

I've missed watching your reviews, and need to make time to watch them more often. Red Dog is among my favorite G.I. Joes, because of his unique "Amerika Sāmoa" ethnicity. The 2011 Slaughter's Marauders Battle Set 7 pack did him honors in my opinion, and added several cultural details which intensified my appreciation for this character. Although the recent 2018 G.I. Joe convention exclusive Slaughter's Renegades 3 Pack Set C revisited this fan favorite character, it lacked some of the quality details of the former figure, while maybe improving on some others. Your video review covered much of that already, but did not mention a few other details which I can speak to. For example, his last name, Taputapu is the Samoan word for "forbidden". His 2011 figure came with the Tatau (tattoo on each arm). The right arm has the Samoan Ulatoa (spearhead, wartime death symbol) and the left arm the Fa'atumoa with Ulatao (unopened banana pod, beginning a life of war). The Tatau is sadly missing from his 2018 figure release... bad Collector's Club! To add to the discussion of some of his significant accessories, you mentioned "...blue headband, brown neckchain with what appears to be bones attached,..." which are some of the unique pieces original to this action figure. The Samoan palm leaf headband looks great, but the crayola blue color used recently by the Club is too bright to pass for Blue Hesper Palm leaves (just another case where the 2011 figure might have been better). Worn around the neck of each figure is his Ula Nifo necklace, with two sperm whale teeth. These are sacred in Samoan culture, and normally only have one sperm whale tooth attached (as did the vintage 1987 Red Dog figure sculpt details). Because by 2011 he was presented a new Ula Nifo necklace having two sperm whale teeth instead of one, that signified that some very special event was honored amoung his people, suggesting a notable development for this character. I'm glad the Club added a pistol holster, because that is something I had to do myself on the 2011 version because I didn't think Red Dog should have to tuck a small arm in his waistband. Good video review. I look forward to seeing more.
