Hasbro Exec #1: "Well, we're doing the last retail line of G.I. Joe 3-packs this year, are there any characters we haven't done in action figure form yet?"
Hasbro Exec #2: "We've got this one character in the comics that's fairly popular. Black female character." #1: "Oh great! We can cover multiple demographics with that! What's her code name and specialty?" #2: "Shooter, and she's a marksman/sniper type. Think Low-Light or Bullhorn." #1: "Simple yet effective. Tell me, what body do you plan on using for her?" #2: "We've got that female Cobra Officer buck we can paint black and re-use." #1: "Excellent! Should we give her extra articulation in the wrists so she can hold the gun properly? I know we have those parts, right?" #2: "Nah, let's not bother. Too much engineering. Besides, this is the last wave so it isn't cost effective." #1: "You're probably right. What accessories do we have for her?" #2: " A 6-piece sniper rifle with very small parts that no grown man will be able to put together and pose her with properly! Short of that, all 6 pieces fit in a case!" #1: "I like it! Move forward with it!" It would not surprise me if this was exactly what transpired in a Hasbro office at some point. Needless to say, I'm quite disappointed with the Shooter figure I finally got a hold of today. |

Nice rant... but seriously though, I happen to know at least two of the folks who would have participated in your hypothetical dialogue... so, I can actually guarantee that you are completely off base. The designers and brand managers at Hasbro during the 50th line put a lot of time and effort trying to produce the best product they could with limited budgets, retail support and tooling availability . It’s a real shame that they couldn’t meet your “grown man” standards.

I collected and appreciated the 50th line - but the new sculpting (like the Cobra Officer female torso, Stiletto head, etc.) was disappointing and a bit embarrassing when compared to the Valkyries put out at the same time by a small independent like Marauder.
I’m sure folks worked hard and were passionate - and I’m thankful they were, but product to product there’s no question about what was superior in quality. |

Granted, but with the amount of parts and tooling available, this could have been done a lot better for a first time and sought after character. The thought was definitely there, I just feel like the execution was done poorly. And I know that this line had little to no support at retail, considering how quickly Toys R Us clearanced them out.

And I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone with my dialogue earlier in this thread, I work as a comedy writer/performer from time to time and it comes out of me in the strangest ways sometimes. I also have a Tight 5 I do about Storm Shadow.

I read this as a comedy bit, but don’t forget we have to take all of these tiny plastic men super cereal and even legit complaints will get you mocked.

Regardless of all that, I like Shooter and the Officer plenty and I've never understood the complaints anyway. |

Man, I loved the sarcastic rant. I cant tell you how many times I have offended someone by my blunt sarcastic personality. Sometimes that awesome thought you just had slips out and everyone is at your throat for something you found quite amusing.
