Target has been one of the frontrunners & the 1st in GI Joe exclusive vehicles tied in with the modern line, offering some of the earliest & best exclusives since Joe relaunched in the new format in 2007. They show no signs of stopping as 2008~2009 all had exclusive vehicle offerings & their exclusive line of ROC “Figure & Small Vehicle” waves looks to be continuing into 2010. Currently the fan favorite elusive wave 2 is out at Target stores & rounding off the wave is a solid offering of the classic Cobra ninja Storm Shadow & his Arashikage Cycle!!
ARASHIKAGE CYCLE (Cobra): To compliment Target's earlier release of Snake Eyes with Arashikage Cycle, his arch nemesis & clan brother Storm Shadow is given equal treatment for the battlefield. Repainted in a clean white, the 2004 Ninja Lightning Cycle is back again & this time looking very similar to it’s original release with Storm Shadow during the Valor vs. Venom era. The cycle is in a very bright white & complimented by a nice maroon tone that has been Storm Shadow’s 3rd signature additive color in the last decade. The detailed workings are done in gray & silver/chrome tones, & best of all, this Cycle comes with a different label sheet than Target’s earlier release this year. This helps diversify the bike a bit from it’s predecessor on more than colors alone. The motorcycle still looks like a modern Japanese-style cycle & has not lost much translating over time to ROC for a speedy lightweight ninja mode of transport. It still features all the original perks, 2 rolling wheels, working kickstand, & a front end missile that is launched by compressing the back tire. If you have either of the VvV releases, or the wave 1 Target release (w/Snake Eyes) from earlier this summer, you know what your in for. A fun accessory & the perfect compliment for when your Ninja Battles hit the streets!! Last edited by Steel Brigade; 12-17-2023 at 05:46 PM.. |

STORM SHADOW (driver/tracksuit): I was immediately drawn to this Storm Shadow when early prototype pics first arrived from China. Mostly because he looked like the ROC Storm Shadow in a basic white tracksuit w/red pin stripes. For me that immediately reminds me of great martial arts flicks like the yellow tracksuit worn by Bruce Lee in “Enter The Dragon” & the homage by Uma Thurman in Tarantino’s "Kill Bill vol. 1." Where this SS shines is that he is a repaint of the ROC ver 1 Storm Shadow, without the restrictive trench coat hindering his legs. This gives Stormy a great versatile range like that found on the Paris Pursuit & Arctic movie versions with the look of a ROC version 1 Storm Shadow.
This version has the darkest skin tone out of possibly every modern SS done so far, although not to dark as to wash him out of his Asian background, but the color choice does make his white costume appear even brighter by comparison. This figure has the Range Viper's belt, which is furnished in a upswing position so he can have a belt on & still fit on the bike with no hindrance, it’s a cool decision & well thought out on Hasbro’s design team's part. Storm Shadow comes with his backpack (removable), nanomite launcher + nanomite warhead, tekagi, signature katana & wakizashi. Along with the “Maskless” version of Arctic Storm Shadow, this is my favorite ROC Storm Shadow to date. He comes fully equipped & with a Cycle for not much more cost than a regular single figure. This is the perfect compliment (or even better imho) to the Snake Eyes offered in wave 1, & I really enjoy this incarnation of ROC Storm Shadow overall, as he’s lots of fun & makes the perfect quick strike ninja for your Cobra missions! You're getting better at posing the figs.
Great review as usual, SB. Quote:
Ain't that the same belt that cames with the Range viper?

I bought this figure primarily for the Storm Shadow. It's great to finally have a masked Storm Shadow in the movie line with great range of motion. I wish he looked more like a traditional ninja than a bike racer though. Nonetheless, the figure sold me on the set, the bike? Not so much. It doesn't help that Hasbro did not retool the foot pegs on it either.

Nice review and pics.
I also bought this version. I think its the best overall Storm Shadow of the ROC line. The movie accurate one is meh. He looks like a Matrix/Lab assistant reject. I just changed his lower legs to 25th style, much better. |

Really don't care for either the bike or Storm Shadow. Honestly, just cant stand any of the movie Storm Shadow releases at all, they just look appalling to me. Guess Im just stuck on the ARAH look.

Best ones for me are this one, Arctic Assault, Arctic Threat, and the unmasked Paris Pursuit version. The latter had a LOT of work put into his design that I never expected(nearly the entire mold is new surprisingly).

Great minds think alike. Yes it is, & I really appreciate you pointing it out!! I had a hard time believing it was new for this figure & looked over my collection a few times to see where that belt was from & could not identify it. Range Viper it is. Mystery solved!! |
