SCARLETT (~Quarrel) **** (4 out of 5)
As a huge Scarlett fan, you can see why I had to get my hands on this repainted version when it showed up for auction!! This deco represents her in the UK "Action Force" colors that were placed on her original '82 figure with new blond hair, personality/identity, & given the codename "Quarrel."
It's cool for me to have an actual "test-Shot" of one of my favorites, & if for any reason this figure does not get a domestic release, she could quickly become one of the highlights of my collection.
Although when/if she does get a domestic release, I'll be sure to pick up that one too!
A desired figure by ARAH collectors, Quarrel was released with the RAM Cycle in the UK (named Z-FORCE RAM) & was later released in the US in 1992, as a limited over stock of Quarrel figures were available at the G.I. Joe Convention & renamed "Undercover Scarlett." The same premise was used for a limited repaint of the Scarlett Bust that was released in 2003 by Palisades.
For the 1st time this figure is meant to be a non-undercover Scarlett who actually dons Quarrel's colors as her hair is left
red. As with the other International Modern Era releases, (Hasbro) has decided to keep the identity of the original character (
see Storm Shadow as "Ninja-Ku") & only change the uniform as a neat homage to the international repaints.
What is unclear at this time is when & where (exactly) this figure is to be released... with the Collector's Club saying that their "At-Con" exclusives are based on Action Force, it's my best guess it will be at the '09 Con where this version of Scarlett will debut... *update: this figure remains unreleased at this time.
Although incomplete for my review,
as this is a Test-Shot figure, Scarlett comes with her flight vest, bottom half of her cross-bow, & backpack. If this figure does get released it will be interesting to see what else she includes (pistol?, helmet? sword? RAM, etc.).
Her head is cast in flesh, this is the 1st time that a Modern Era Scarlett has had this phenomenon, & unless you are really choosey about the paint apps when you buy your Joes, this is almost always the most satisfactory result, as it leaves less room for skin-paint-error. The construction is different than Pilot Scarlett as it offers the new "Pilot" head but the original Scarlett's bottom legs/feet, rather than the new ones made for the Pilot version.
This figure happens to be beautifully painted/cast
as I find most Test-Shots are, & I couldn't have been happier when she landed in my hands as I am picky about getting a "nice looking" Scarlett. The
green is a warm military color & the scads of
black really make this figure pop, the hair is more
red like the comic-pack version... Most of the color is identical to the setup found on the original Quarrel.
No other changes have been made on this version of the figure...
As a Scarlett fan, if this figure is released (& Con-wise if you can get a decent price) I highly recommend her as she is not only a nice mix of the Pilot & Original Scarlett, but her homage colors also make her look a bit more real-world Military.
By judging how fast the 20+ of her sold out on Ebay from 1 seller, I can tell many are as big a fan as I am of one of the original 13...
Scarlett.
