Another year, and another JOECON. One where we thought it would have been our last JoeCon, but that's another story. This year's G.I. Joe Convention in Loveland, Colorado gave us Sky Patrol. The Sub-team of 1990's ARAH line. Sky Patrol is G.I. Joe's Elite six man unit. Using sophisticated weaponry and advance stealth technology, they keep the skies clear of Cobra aerial assaults crafts.
First up is Air Raid. Air Raid is a code name used during the Rise of Cobra toy line under Talltree, Franklin E. (aka Airborne) who came with the Sky Sweeper. Not to be confused with Battle Force 2000's Anti Aircraft Tank. Air Raid for the 2016 Sky Patrol set was the bonus free attendee. This Air Raid is a whole new character, he's a Major from the Air Force whose MOS is Flight Test Officer. Air Raid consist of: Head: repaint (African American) Duke v30 Torso: Duke v32 Arms & Hands: Sky Dive v2 Upper legs: Capt. Ace v1 Lower legs & Feet: Sky Dive v2 A repaint of Capt. Ace v4 that was released with the Sky Striker in 2011 As for accessories, Air Raid doesn't come with much. He has the pistol that was first released with Snake Eyes v54. The rest is the gear for his uniform. The vest/harness, helmet and nozzles are from Sky Dive v2. The helmet on my Air Raid did not have the holes "punched in" to connect the hoses. Do not know if this is a common thing or just my copy. While waiting in line on Thursday to get the other Exclusives, I saw that Air Raid was going for insane prices on eBay. I never complain about eBay prices, yes a seller has a starting price or "Buy It Now" price. But ultimately it's worth what the purchaser is willing to pay in the end. I like the figure, it's a new character and an addition to the Sky Patrol team. Would I recommend him to your collection, sure. But being basically a repaint of Sky Dive v2 from the Pursuit of Cobra line, you're better off just purchasing a Sky Dive v2 and painting him "sky" blue and grey.

Very nice review. The golden ticket holders and the people buying more than one attendee package scored on the freebie, and were able to cash in.

Now we know why Static Line didn't get a removable helmet with his iconic flat top look. This figure got it instead. I would have preferred Static Line got that helmet and head instead to be honest. Not really impressed with this figure.

Agreed, I think it would have made more sense for the head and helmet to be for Static Line instead. The body though reminds me of Barrel Roll...

Thanks for the pictures. I finally can see him now as I never saw any pics of him out of the bag. Still can't understand the insane prices for him.

Thank You for the perfect review! I do not like the black skin on a recycled caucasian face (Duke). Why not a new version of Airborne, Ripcord or Glenda? This time I'll pass because the price is too high. This figure does not worth it i.m.o.! Free Style was a good figure and I bought "she" immediately. The new "Air Raid"...I do not know...

Nice review. Now that I know it's an Ace repaint, that closes the door on any possible want of this figure for me. Thanks for saving me some cash.

It's hard to say how many boxed set attendees there are. The last time we got a limit announced on a box set was Bear Trap in 2012 at 600. Given how other limits have gone up since then, the production this year could be more like 750-800. However, that limit includes Homefront Heroes also. So I'm not sure what percent of the buyers are attendees. If it's about 80% or less, then that would put Air Raid on the lower end of JoeCon limited editions...rarer than any figures from 2012 to 2016 except maybe some paradrop figures, and about as rare as the figures from 2009 and 2011. |

I like him, despite the reuse of Duke's head. If only he came with Skydive's glider, cause I'm not gonna pony up cash for those overpriced jet packs.
