Today's profile is the 1993 Gristle figure:
https://forgotten--figures.blogspot....3-gristle.html I passed him by many, many times in the 90's. But, now, he's nostalgic to me for that reason alone.

Today's profile is the 1985 Transportable Tactical Battle Platform:
https://forgotten--figures.blogspot....al-battle.html It's a mouthful to say, but is a very solid playset with lots of fun features and great display potential.

I got this for XMAS that year and I loved it. It was very fragile, but it worked as part of my HQ. I never had the FLAGG or any of the copters but I have a single Blue Thunder (joe scale) copter that was strong enough to carry it on its own from room to room between my FLAGG (mom's buffet table) and my HQ set up in my room. Great toy, love the blog.

I had the platform and it had many cool features, but I didn't like it. The scale always seemed off and the connecting hall between the armory and the control center was useless because of the helipad. I may have appreciated it more if I had any of the vehicles that could interact with it or more Joes since all I had at the time was Sci fi and Lifeline. 10 out of 10 for appearance, but a 4 for actual solo play value. This set is behind at least the Moray and and WHALE for me as far as contemporary playsets.

If Lifeline and Sci-Fi were your team you had more problems than the TTBP!
(I kid. I hate that "if_____ is ________ than you've got more problems than ___________" stuff.) |

(I kid. I hate that "if_____ is ________ than you've got more problems I later got Beachhead, Leatherneck and the Havoc so I wasnt too bad off. I loved Lifeline, I had him before I saw him portrayed on the show. My Lifeline and later Tiger Force Lifeline, was a Bad Ass. He was constantly stranded on a Jungle Island infested by Cobra Troopers. Armed with Beach Head's gun and his medkit, frequently used as an underwater breathing supply, he owned Cobras. Still my favorite figure if not my favorite character. Beachhead is a close second. |

Today's profile is the 1993 Nitro Viper figure. Sure, he's overly bright and orange isn't a traditionally Cobra color. But, there's something about him that has kept him among my favorite Cobra army builders for a long time.

I haven't owned an anniversary figure in 9 years. This female Cobra Officer has a lot of the flaws that kept me away from that style of Joes. But, there's also some aspects of the figure that are well done.

Great analysis. I share your opinions about the Anniversary line, but I did still buy in heavily.

https://forgotten--figures.blogspot....a-officer.html I don't feel this anniversary style will be the future of the brand. I think the last few years have soured retail on the figure style, and Hasbro's going to address costs with the next major iteration. Much of that is going to be helped the fact that GI Joe is probably not going to be produced in China going forward (and may have helped contribute to the lack of product this year). Hasbro has largely shifted its production resources to Vietnam, but all of Joe's tooling in China, Hasbro must either transport or recreate assets in a new country. And given the current response to the brand, I don't think they feel that investment is worth it. If they stick with 3.75, I'm expecting something more in style to the upcoming Corps figures- solid range of articulation, but not an extreme amount with far less "geebles" than most 25th/ME figures were designed around. Without a vest of some sort, most figures just look BAD because they were ALL designed to have a bunch of crap stacked on top of a base figure. Speaking of...I'd be quite curious to see your thoughts on the next wave of Corps figures due out this year, with Four Horsemen sculpting and classic o-ring articulation styles.
