G.I. Joe 5-Pack #2 Modern Era Review

Snake-Eyes is just like the purple version we got in the Pyramid of Darkness DVD set only black this time. As with most all the other figures in these new 5 packs, there have been changes and new parts. The torso is an all new sculpt now that looks more like the 1985 version. Also, both lower arms are new, The left one has a new hand and the right one rotates at the end of the glove instead of at the wrist now. Snakes has a new backpack for those late night excursions behind enemy lines. Timber is an all new sculpt as well with a fierce, lunging in to attack pose. Snake-Eyes comes with Timber, Sword, Backpack, Bandolier, Belt, Uzi, Rifle and GI Joe Stand.

While mostly a repaint, this is one of the best versions of Snake-Eyes we've gotten to date.

Look how far you've come Lady Jaye. Each new version has had improvements over the previous one. This Lady Jaye is all new except for the head which came from the Revenge of Cobra DVD set. This version is straight from the cartoon with the upturned shirt collar, sheathed knife on her chest, low slung belt with canteen and dark green pants and gloves. A huge improvement is that the hands now rotate. She has the same quiver with three spear halves that combine, this time the whole, long spear is thicker and less likely to warp or break like the last one. Lady Jaye comes with Belt, Quiver, Long Spear, Lower Spear Half, Two Different Upper Spear Halves, Rifle and a GI Joe Stand.

This is the definitive cartoon version of Lady Jaye, added with all the improvements over the previous versions, this is a must buy figure.

General Hawk is the low point of this set. There is nothing new here except for paint. The sculpt is still as good as the wave 9 version with the few flaws it had. The left hand is still pretty gimpy and the pistol holster doesn't hold his pistol as well as the first one did. The furry collar looks better in a dark brown color and the camo pattern on his legs has the same pattern the original has. The helmet has a better paint app with the goggle lens turned white instead of black. Unfortunately, that's the only good changes to this figure. The colors are too light and instead of keeping the detail of Hawk's last name on his name tag, there's now just a dark brown smudge. General Hawk comes with a Pistol, Helmet, Backpack and GI Joe Stand.

The sad part about this figure is Hasbro could have used the same mold, new shoulder epaulets, Red Star head and hat, some paint and pass him off as Keel Haul. I would have been so excited about that. Instead I have this useless Hawk in a box with four great remakes.

Flint looks like he should have from the start. He has the same body as Tiger Force Flint. The torso has been retooled with the removal of the medal on the upper torso and all the belt pouches getting cut down to be slimmer losing all the detail they once had, also the crotch has been fixed to allow Flint to sit better. Since the new belt covers them up, you don't notice this at all. The belt has a backpack hole for the new backpack and the head is all new too. Included with Flint is an all new shotgun. This shotgun features a movable hand grip to simulate cocking. Be careful as this part does come completely off and is very small. Flint comes with removable Belt, Shotgun, Rifle, Pistol and GI Joe Stand.

Like I said, this is how Flint should have been from the start. The new shotgun is a bit of a tease as it's so nice, but the handle is too thick to easily fit in Flint's hand.

Shipwreck is an all new figure except for his shoes. The head is bigger and more reminiscent of the vintage version. Shippy also has two opened hands now with separate trigger fingers. He has the proper Sea Serpent around an anchor tattoo and generally looks more like the cartoon and original figure than ever. The shirt isn't as wide opened as the last few versions have been but the shirt sleeves and pants cuffs aren't as wide either. The only reused accessory here is the hook and string from the comic pack Shipwreck. He has a new harpoon gun that looks great but the trigger guard is too small to let either trigger finger in. There is also a new pistol that fits nicely into a new leg holster. Polly is all new with his wings spread open and much smaller feet. The satchel is a new accessory that Shippy has never had before but they needed something for Polly's feet to attach to and now Polly can basically sit on Shipwrecks shoulder like he always did in the cartoon. Shipwreck comes with Polly, Pistol, Harpoon Gun, Satchel Bag, Hook and String and a GI Joe Stand

This is the most accurate Shipwreck we've gotten in this line. It should be in everyone's collection.

Like the Cobra Commander figure from the 2009 Gift Set, the Hawk figure is pretty redundant.

I'm pretty psyched about the rest of the figures, but only wish they got it right the first time around!

Thanks for the reviews and the great pics. I love this Flint and Lady Jaye. The SE is good but just doesn't look right to me for some reason. The Hawk sucks and the Shippy is growing on me everytime I look at it.

Looks like SE has a new lower right arm as well. I think this one and a few parts from the Black Commando SE could make for one cool ultimate SE.

Im surprised with the 5 packs, the did some new moldings and the figs look decent.
So im left to wonder why didnt the retool more HOH figures.
I know the Viper got his much needed fixed hands but what about CG?
But I digress
thanks for the review Shogi!
I may have to pick these up
