Just got my set in and thought I'd post my feelings on the set and hopefully hit on some things not mentioned to death already. First, the figures.
Quick Kick - I don't think words can adaquately express what an utter dissapointment this guy turned out to be, which is a shame because except for his useless karate hand, he's actually a very well-sculpted figure with an almost entirely new mold. Since I'm not a toy sculptor, I can't say if the ankles could have been done well at that size, so I can give him a pass on that, especially when he still has more articulation than a lot of figures twice his weight-class. The paint, however, is where this figure fails on a truly epic scale. So bad that even Spirit laughs at him. First off, his eyes are looking in two different directions, and I don't mean he's cross-eyed. One eye is actually looking up and another down! His hair is a bit sloppy around where it meets the head, and there is a whole section of black missing on the inside of the crotch on mine. I have half a mind to send Hasbro a bill for all the time on my weekend it will take to fix just what slipped past their quality control. QK comes with a backpack with seemingly that mysteriously floats behind him with no straps or harness to explain why, a sword, and a pair of nunchaku that he can't wield two-handed.
Maj. Blud. - Just as a crappy, half-asses paint job can ruin an otherwise good figure, so can a good one elevate a mediocre one. His right arm is still a brick, but the paint now brings out a lot of the techy detail lost on the all-black versions, and his teeth are now painted, giving him a menacing scowl as he takes aim. This Bludd is an interesting animal. He has the desert version's head, torso, and lower legs, while the upper legs and left arm are from the carded version. The "armor" on his upper legs, though, aren't painted, making me wonder why they didn't use the desert-pack version's instead. Having the armor and not painted makes an otherwise excellent paint ap look unfinished. Another problem is that in mine the t-bar is loose. Nothing some careful crazy-glue apps can't fix, but again, the attention to quality is lacking in these sets. The Maj comes with his usual dog tags, missle gun, and backback with ammo that you will lose five minutes after opening. Having been raised on the cartoon, this is will probably be my default Bludd once the problems are fixed.
Cobra Commander - I was looking forward to this guy, and it's because I knew I was getting a hooded CC in this set is the reason I didn't get the carded version. Sadly, this must be some kind of business plan of Hasbro's, as this version makes me want to get the carded version. His body is mostly the same as previous versions, but his hood is very oddly proportioned. His head looks even smaller than Wild Bill's (without the hat to fill out the space), and his head sits disturbingly high. The effect is not unlike a hooded grapefruit hovering a foot above the Commander's shoulders. One change is his left hand, which is now open if you absulotely need a CC that can realistically wield an assault rifle. My adice would be to just swap hands with a superior version though.
Snake Eyes - It's really unfortunate that the most vastly overused character should also be the best in the set by far. This SE is mostly the same as the carded version with the grill-visor, but with new lower legs. The biggest complaint about this figure people have had is the reason people shouldn't always trust photos. Under normal lighting, Snake Eyes's outfit looks as black as the Ace of Spades, and only reveals a purple tint under strong light (like a flash-bulb!). His webgear and details also have a purple tint, but again only barely noticable under normal lighting. This Snake Eyes also comes with a sword so awesome and vicious, that it makes Quick Kick cry over how he can never wield a two-handed weapon. This could very well be my new default SE until I see the new Joe 5-Pack.
As expected, the control cube is a piece of cheap plastic that could make a half-decent dio piece. Nothing special. This set's piece of the BAF is the MASS Device's treads, and I'm glad to see my plastic WMD taking shape.
And now for some thoughts on something not usually addressed in the DVD packs, the DVD! At a glance, the quality is a huge leap up from the Mass Device and Revenge of Cobra discs. It's possible the masters they had to work with were in better shape. Like previous discs, it lacks the 5.1 mix the Rhino discs had, but honestly, it's hardly missed on a weekday afternoon cartoon.
All in all I would highly recommend against this unless you absolutely need a QK, you really want a cartoon Maj Blud, or you're one of the two peoplle who don't have a good Snake Eyes figure yet. However, I would HIGHLY recommend this to parents, aunts, or uncles who want to get something for the younger kids that isn't a video game. We all grew up on this show, so we know it's appropriate for them. Pop the discs in and let them enjoy the adventures of the Joe team with toys that (mostly) look like crap to us collectors, but that the kids will be far more forgiving of (hey, look at the figures we grew up on!).
I'd like to post about the Serpentor set, but unfortunately Hasbro Toy Store sent me Clone Wars Monopoly by mistake. *sigh*

Need to correct you on Snake Eyes. It's not "mostly the same as previous versions." Actually, it's more new than not. Entirely new head, arms, legs, and bandolier/belt.

They're finally starting to trickle into Walmarts. I got my set in a Walmart about a weak ago.
I was one of the two collectors that didn't have a Snake-Eyes yet as I started collecting just this August so I was waiting for this one. Glad I did its awesome. My Quick Kick's eyes are fine, but it does have the missing black paint on the inside of the crotch. My Major Bludd's helmet was glued on wrong, it was almost completely covering his eyes. I had to pry the glued on helmet off then reglue it in the proper position.

When I purchased mine, there were several on the shelf, so I picked through them to make sure my Quick Kick didn't look too "surprised"...
Unfortunately though, my Dusty from the ASA set is sans web-gear...
