The Cobra Trooper is 99.9% of the exact same mold we got back in wave 2, so much so that he even has the wide crotch that was thought to be changed forever with the Python Patrol Officer. The only mold change here is the new upper thigh to make the knife fit snuggly in it's holder. The other changes with this figure are purely paint changes. The Balaclava is now red and the neck is flesh tone. Unlike most recent figures, this one is bald underneath the helmet. Cobra Trooper comes with a Rifle, Knife, Helmet, Web Gear and Cobra Stand.
Ever since we started getting single packed figures, I've wanted a MOC Cobra Trooper with red Cobra sigil to be a companion piece to my MOC 83 Cobra Soldier. I was denied in wave 2 with the "Viper Pilot" and again in wave 4 with the Air Trooper. Now Hasbro has given us a red sigil trooper……but they decided to make the balaclava red instead of black, thus defeating the purpose for me. Others may want it just to get more troopers and it does look ok for that. I do have a problem with Hasbro stating it's from the comic book though, as it's not. We already got the comic version in the Cobra Legions set. Red balaclava, red sigil, yellow/tan web gear and uncovered hands, that's the comic version, not this figure with his black gloved hands and black web gear, But I'm just being nit-picky now. The fact that we can't get Hasbro to re-release the exact same figure as we got in the first 5 pack (But we can get the exact same Tripwire from 2 months ago) and the reintroduction of the flawed "wide crotch" gives this figure a low rating. It would be lower but openers and army builders shouldn't have a problem with this figure as it's a generic trooper and will work in dios and armies well. Figure Rating: 5 out of 10 Last edited by Shogi; 08-31-2011 at 06:15 PM.. |

You can't have enough Cobra Troopers and Vipers. If I could get 10 for 4.99 I would dole out 50.00 for those.

Agreed! Hasbro releases Tripwire identical, and Hasbro sees fit to release this with red balaclava. It's as if they WANT to piss off the legions of fans but it won't stop the fans from buying up hoards of these.
Yep, I can see in the future, where they promise to release a REAL accurate coloured trooper, yet will still balls it up somehow by giving him pink boots. |

Why not just switch the Viper Pilot head with the red-masked (I refuse to use the word "balaclava") Cobra Trooper head? Problem solved.
And really, I'm sure at SOME POINT Hasbro will release the black-masked Trooper on a single-card...we can all buy 1,000 of them and then find something else to complain about (Major Bludd's mustache is too long, Scarlett's hair is too red, etc., etc., etc...) Ahhh, for mint-on-card, gotcha. Then yeah, I completely agree. I hate when Hasbro draws on releases for years, they do that with Star Wars a lot as well.

Sorry if this was mentioned already (I'm sick and head is fuzzy) but is this a single card figure?
Great review. Unfortunate about the wide crotch though. |

My biggest upset was no fixed crotch. As was mentioned in the review, i thought the original trooper crotch was destroyed and we only had fixed crotch goodness to look forward to. I could have just switched out the heads and been satisfied. Oh well. I guess i can skip this one.

This was a huge bane of contention for me, because i'm huge on having figures accurate to the originals. I was excited when it was announced they were finally doing a red symbol cobra trooper, but became hugely dissapointed when i saw it had the red mask. The red symbol Cobra trooper is the quintessential cobra trooper, it's the most iconic. It's the regular white stormtrooper of gi joe. i want a crap load of them, but they never come in a capacity that i can army build.
I know i can swap the heads, but theres some problems with that. If i swap the red head, onto the silver logoed one it has a black colored neck still, and renderes it useless. I wonder whats up with the black masked red symbol trooper on the new red masked ones carded pictures that were on ctr a few weeks ago. I really wish They made a boxset that had like four red symbol troops all black harnesses, and a Oficer with one correct black harness as well. and maybe swap in some different legs to make him more accurate minus kneepads. |

I never understood why all the basic cobra troops have come with an SVD (A snipe rifle).
