I tore into my Target Ultimate Battle Pack today. Overall I would say it's a pretty fun set. Great for kids, especially for those kids getting into Joe for the first time. If you Love Plastic then this set is for you.
The Red HISS Tank is Great, if a bit stale at the moment. The Blue Flight Pod is cool and different, strange that it is from a different mold than the other modern era flight pods (the hole on the back that holds the jet pack in place is round and loose on this version, where it is hexagonal and tight on the Grey versions that I have.) The Mobat is neat, but it's rather vanilla compared to what could have been. I guess it retains all of it's original features, so it's an OK throwback to the ARAH heyday. There was no skimping on the accessories for the figures. All the holsters are loaded and more accessories are burried underneath the tanks. The Hiss Comander looks good in red and silver & The Cobra troop is cool in red and grey. The CC, Destro and the Stalker with jet pack are tired. Hasbro, give these guys a vacation. I wasn't expecting much from Steeler, He is just a repaint from his first version. I don't get the same warm and fuzzy from him like I did with the Tan Clutch or the Tan Grunt from the ARAH days. Short Fuze was my very first Joe as a kid. This version just dosen't do it for me. Maybe it's the lack of correct web gear or the reuse of Doc's head, this figure isn't Short Fuze. If I was Buying this set just to get Short Fuze in my collection, then I payed $68 for his mortar. The Mortar is the only connection to the original figure, IMHO. I don't remember ever needing a tool Kit to open and play with my toys, as a child though. I needed Wire Clippers, Exacto knife, and a philips head screw driver to liberate the set and get it operational. The Mobat battery door is now held on with a screw, I suppose for saftey sake. Seems like this would all but garantee the loss of the battery door since the loss of the screw means the use of tape, and that fails the job real quick. In 50+ years of battery opperated toys and devices, they still havn't found the solution to keep the battery doors from being lost. Last edited by txbart; 11-14-2008 at 10:36 AM.. Reason: Add Pics |

I tore into this beast last night. Man what a chore! They should have included bonus wire cutters and x-acto. I have never seen so much crap holding figures down before in my life.
All in all, I agree with txbarts comments. I am pleased with the set even though a lot of it is rehashed. I will likely keep a few things and sell/trade off the rest. I did enjoy the "Christmas like" feeling I had last night! Takes me back.. |

There's a crazy amount of packaging to tear through on this one. I've got a pile all broken down to go in my recycling next week...
Anyway, the set is pretty cool, but the main draw for collectors - Short-Fuze - is a let-down. I kinda knew he would be when we saw that he was a kitbash of weird parts, but when I got him home and freed, I just looked at him and thought he was one of the worst looking 25A Joes so far. My favorite piece in this is the MOBAT... I never had one as a kid, and this thing is so cool! After that, Stalker is awesome. He replaced my Wave 3 version... |

i don't get why you don't like Shortfuze, he's much more unique than most of the 25th versions of the original 13. I think he's a nice addition.
only waste of a figure is the Cobra Commander. I thought Destro was going to suck but he actually looks quite nice. But Stalker and the Cobra Gunner are the true gems of this set. |
