Flint is my favorite G.I.Joe character, and his original figure is still my favorite Joe toy. The mini-series that this was taken from is also my favorite of the Joe toons. That being said, I'm still not sure that this is a great choice of a figure. A part of me thinks that it harkens back to the days of the POTF '85 Luke in Stormtrooper gear, and the other thinks about Hasbro's love for repacking figures towards the end of the year, like Wave 12, that they have done fore the last several years with Star Wars. But, it does have a bit of coolness that does go beyond that as it is something that was featured in the cartoon series, and it's not a straight up repack.
The figure is for the most part just another use of the Cobra Trooper body. But, like the Para-Trooper from the Best of DVD pack, there are enough changes to make it worth while. And, to be honest, I'm not even looking at it in the sense that it has a Flint head. Just changing up the arms to the now standard Flint arms makes this different enough for your cobra troops to pick up multiples and add them to your army and mix things up a bit. The rest is the standard trooper fare, as stated, but like the last several to come out using this body style, it has the slightly changed knife sheath that holds the knife better than the earlier releases. The head is also the standard Flint head. Flint does have the trooper head with removable helmet, which should have been the new style from the DVD pack. It also has the standard Cobra Trooper webgear, which may have been cooler if it was Flint's molded in black. The knife is standard and the gun is the one from the first DVD set that has been coming out with a few figures now. I love the gun, and think it looks much better than the one that comes with the normal cobra trooper. So, my final thoughts on this kind of even things out. Yes, it's a strange choice, but still kinda cool. It works on two levels as a new Flint and a new troop builder for those who like to build armies. But, it could have come with some different accessories to really make it stand out, and having the older style trooper head is a disappointment. FIGURE RATING 5 out of 10

This is a really cool figure idea, but I'm going to pass on it unless I can snag some for a discount price. This figure could've been easily achieved by customizers and didn't need to take the place of other carded figures (same arguement with Trakker, although I love that figure).
You're right about how it should've had the new trooper head. I'd give this a 6/10. |

Yeah, and I hate to admit it, but having the new trooper head would have really had me very excited about this one.

Maybe I'm in a minority here...but I really don't like the new style of trooper helmet...it's too boxy, and harkens to nothing of the original trooper. And for the figure itself...meh, 6 is being TOO nice...Your right, any customizer could have crapped this figure together in a half hour. A waste of a slot that coulda' been used to crap out Zap or a single pack Short Fuze faster.
Just MHO ....But yeah, I'll still get a few of em lol.

I think it’s lazy, which is what turned me off of the figure when he was announced. And I do like repaints BTW.
After some thought though, there’s a lot you could do with this figure, and there's a lot of creativity too. Serves as a fun troop builder and an nice new Flint, a good combo truly. |

And that's why I scored it as high as I did. I originally was going to score it lower until after I opened it and it got me thinking of the possibilities. I may pick up more now.

I'm picking up two so I can have Flint and Mutt. I can't use it as a trooper though, well maybe in a bar scene dio or a poker game dio sure, but not anywhere else

The gun is cartoon accurate, so that is a big plus right there.

Wave 11 is so hit or miss for me.
The EELs, Zartan, and Airborne I'm really excited about. The others, range from meh, to loathing. This is the first wave since 8 that I'm only opening some of them. I'll actually open this Flint, so I can maybe use his head on V1 Flint, but he'll remain a Cobra Trooper. I've heard others mention that he'd be a good mechanic, and I agree. Was he necessary? Absolutely not, and I think he would have been better in a DVD set than a single-card. |
