That Figures: REVIEW: GI Joe: Retaliation - Cobra HISS Tank (with Cobra Commander) Final Thoughts I'm a little torn on this new HISS Tank. On the one hand, I love the design overhaul and the way it looks as if if could do some serious damage in battle. The side-mounted weapons are cool (as is the option of being able to re-position them) and the turret is a really great addition to the concept. I also love the clear canopy. But when it comes to the actual execution, I'm not quite so enthusiastic. It's by no means a terrible toy but when Hasbro announced the line they admitted they'd be looking at ways to cut costs and, when you play with this toy, those cuts are pretty obvious. The vehicle seems to lack weight, the ''pretend'' tracks seem a little bit of a cop-out, the bundled driver's articulation is pretty gimped and - worst of all - in some places the plastic simply looks and feels cheap. With that said, for around $20 this is a pretty neat toy. As a display piece it looks cool (the new guns seriously kick butt) and if you display it in the right light/position you probably won't notice the cost-cutting. As a toy for kids it feels pretty sturdy and I wouldn't have any worries about it breaking. It's just a shame it lacks that extra fun factor that really makes the Ghost Hawk II so much of a joy. A cool update, marred by Hasbro's cost-cutting. Which is a shame, as this could have been awesome. Final Score: B

A good way to cut cost is not to include a vehicle driver if that means it will negatively affect the quality of the vehicle itself.
I can't wait for Retaliation figures and vehicles to come and pass next year. They are a disappointment....

I don't entirely agree about all the figures and vehicles being a disappointment though. I personally really like the Zartan, the Ninja Dojo set and the Ghost Hawk.

Nice Review. Where you been? Nice to see you back. I just can't pull the trigger on this. These treads are too big to be fake, and still look cool, IMO.

I'd love to see Hasbro give this a ''Director's Cut'' and re-issue it with a better driver, working treads, etc, as the silhouette and basic concept is superb.

Thanks for the review. This is one of the vehicles i actually opened from the movie line. I like it for the most part. I do think if it had moving threads it would have been almost awesome.

I can actually live with the fig, maybe cause I grew up in the seventies with 5-pt Star Wars figs. They're not 'hindered'... they're RETRO ! But seriously...
After the previous wave of Hiss Tanks(v5), I just can't pull the trigger. My biggest gripe is going backward in tread technology. But there is also the issue of full swivel capability versus the new tilt action. Pretty lame in my book. That said, I do like the clear canopy and the modular weaponry of the new Hiss. Just not enough to vote with my dollars. Great review, Iok. I always enjoy your stuff. |

As I said, I just wish Hasbro had invested a bit more into the final quality, as the basic design and the new weaponry looks great.

It's like I know it's wrong and a step-back but my inner child keeps jumping out and taking over! I'm really not sure what the point of the tilt action is. It's like the base had some pre-existing engineering they had to use so this was the solution or something... I dunno. It's an oddity. And it's a shame, as with some extra effort it would have been great.

This is my nephews go to hisstank when he comes over because it rolls without getting stuck like the "real" treads. I agree with him and through that, agree, i guess, that hasbro made the right decision.
But, to your guys' point, the poc ones i have are more fun to look at, though. On some level hasbro has to be aware that theyre never going to win with us for very long, if at all... Better to give children that want a hisstank one that can actually be played with without difficulty, i say.
