Firefly is the same figure we saw last year in wave 3. Same in every detail except one…….this time he's painted in a blue camo color and has brown chest straps. He has the updated, fixed crotch to allow better leg movement. Firefly comes with a Pistol, Phone, Gun, Backpack with Toolbox Lid and a Cobra Stand.
It's cool that we got a bad guy to fight our greenshirts, but we coulda just had an extra Greenshirt. This blue camo Firefly is a solid figure, it just may be a better base for a custom like Shockwave or a non neon Alley-Viper. This figure really wasn't needed here. GI Joe Trooper (AKA: Greenshirt) is made from Snake-Eyes' torso and legs with Duke's arms and one of four different heads (Flash, Comic Pack Hawk, Breaker, Duke) There are 2 different helmets used in this set. Two are green on the inside and appear to be Flash helmets. The helmet on the Comic Pack Hawk head looks to be the same as a Flash helmet, but it's molded in yellow plastic instead of green like the other two. The last one is a Breaker helmet. The colors, arms sculpts , Snow Job rifles and web belts are spot on with the generic Greenshirts we saw in the original cartoon. The only thing that could make them better is if they used a collared button down the front shirt instead of the sweater look the Snake-Eyes torso has. The handle for the Uzi is much too small for these figures, It'll fit into the right hand due to a small ridge at the bottom of the handle, but it's way too loose in the left hand. I have had a problem with a couple of the hands having too much paint on them thus causing them to have sticky joints that can lead to wrist breakages. I don't know if that's just my set or a common problem. Each Greenshirt comes with a helmet, removable Web Gear, Pistol, Uzi, Rifle, Knife and a GI Joe Stand. (Which has a misprint of "G.I.JDE TROOPER")
If you're looking for a bunch of background characters for your dios then this is the set for you. The figures are ok, but they do have their drawbacks. (Duke arms, Snake-Eyes leg sheath with oversized knife, small Uzi, Breaker head) Not a complete pass, but could have been better Figure Rating: 6 out of 10 Last edited by Shogi; 08-31-2011 at 06:14 PM.. |

You need to run their arms under hot water and then twist the joints and they are fine after that.

good review. I'll pick up a set if/when my TRU finally gets them in, but out of the four TRU exclusive 5-packs that have been released thus far, I've only really been excited about one of them -- the Nightwatch set.

This is the only set out of the 4 that I opened. I got the first two only because I was trying to get everything with a 25th logo. The 25th nightwatch was kind of cool but it didnt hold any nostalgia for me, it doesnt fit in my joe displays as I usually have them broken down by year the figure was first released.

I like the firefly but more of the same molds and heads with figure stands all mis-spelled was a bit disappointed.

Couldn't agree more. Nthing I dislike more in the entire line than Duke Arms. And this set is ful of them.

I am really looking forward to this set, but I've given up on TRU stocking them anytime soon. I figure they'll be shelf-warming with the rest of the 5-packs eventually. I've always wanted generic Joe troops, as a kid it always bugged me that I never had them, although I never troop-built as a kid either, so it's not like I would have had a ton. haha.
The troop stand is an unforgivable screwup. Come on, NOBODY caught that? I know all the bullshit levels of review something has to go through before production, and NOBODY caught that? Of course, if they fix it, then it will become a "rare" item milking big dollars I'd imagine, although it's just stupid. I also despise the Duke head. It's obviously Duke. The others, okay, they're more generic figures, if you ask me. But DUKE? Come on, it's like they had to put him in there just to squeeze another Duke into the line. They could have painted a beard on him (like Breaker?) or something. Geez. The Fred head would have worked well for this pack, if you ask me. Instead, yep, checklist! Another Duke. This was a perfect option to do a "variant" set. Do an "ethnic" pack. Or throw in 1 or 2 darker-skinned guys at least. Shit, use a Roadblock head, and paint some hair on him. Granted, white guys have more variations in hair color perhaps, but that's it. I'd like to see some skin tone variations, there hasn't been this white of an army since WWII. I agree on the included Firefly. Did we really need ANOTHER Firefly? At least it wasn't Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow. Give us a fifth greenshirt. It's a TROOP BUILDER SET! Do we REALLY need the fifth one to ALWAYS be distinguishable as a rival or a "team leader"? At least it looks good, the blue bugs me slightly but I can live with it. Now if it will just get here, I'll buy 2. 1 to open, 1 to closet with the rest of the MISB 25th collection. |

I'm actually glad they at least DID use the v1 Hawk head. I hate that headsculpt for Hawk, and since I have the "General" version, He's my display Hawk. This gives me a greenshirt with an actual "unique" head. The Breaker head and the Flash head are generic enough if you ask me, although they've been used a few too many times already. At least painting beard shadows or mustaches on those heads work, since they're so generic.
It'd also be nice to eventually get a sailor crew too. For all those Flagg owners out there who are using it as their 25th display. Of course, it would all be Shipwrecks. Red-bearded Shipwreck, black-bearded Shipwreck, yellow-bearded Shipwreck, and then "Tan Shipwreck w/black hair" (since brown is already taken). And they'd have him fighting Scuba Storm Shadow. |
