Another cancelled Alpha vehicle, another repaint, retool, recycle re-release... The really note-worthy thing here is that the Volcano-Viper is the ''proto'' Hazard-Viper, so if the upcoming 30th Anniversary wave has you excited, you might want to check-out some of what you can expect when the Hazard-Viper hits shelves... That Figures: REVIEW: GI Joe Rise of Cobra Lava Pod with Volcano-Viper

Apparently, the Hazard-Viper has different lower arms than the Volcano-Viper. The Volcano-Viper has the Neo-Viper lower arms/wrist. The Hazard-Viper does not. I'm not sure exactly which arms they are, but they're clearly different.
GI JOE 30th Anniv. figure Hazard-Viper

GI JOE 30th Anniv. figure Hazard-Viper I had no real issue with the arms. It's the legs that worry me...!

Who doesn't love snowboarding pants?
I just meant that I think the lower arms are the only difference in the figure itself besides the color scheme (and accessories obviously).

I debated picking up the Lava Pod off ebay for awhile... Until ROSS came to the rescue.
I ended up taking the actual vehicle straight to Goodwill and just threw in a spare RoC snake eyes (molded lips, ew!) so whatever kid got it would still have a figure. I never even took it out of the box. I wonder what they re-sold it for...? Anyways, I like the "Volcano Viper" figure a lot, but knew I had to do something about one of those lower arms: Overall I really like this figure and can't wait to get the orange 30th Hazard Viper version (so I won't have to mod the arm). Your review pretty much mirrored my impression of the figure once I got him in hand. |

I actually started a thread about how would people use the Volcano Viper in their universe considering the new Hazard Vipers. Personally, I'll use the Volcano Viper as the commander of my Hazard Vipers.

I picked one of these up at Ross for $8.99. Glad I did. Love the fig. The lava pod will get stuck in a yard sale, but the figure is awesome!

No worries. As I say, the arms weren't an issue for me, design or production-wise, so I'm good with them. The new ones look cool though.
