I don’t mean to embarrass you, but the retooled HD backpack is not even intended for the Iron Grenadier figure. Hasbro was trying to correct a recent previous mistake; failing to include the ammunition backpack for POC City Strike Destro’s Gatling gun/ammo feed belt. Try it, and you will discover that it completes your Destro figure. (Now, if you army build these Iron Grenadiers, then you're going to have lot’s of extra ammo backpacks for your fodder bin.)
The Iron Grenadier is not meant to be posed as a buffoon. The “Aliens” Colonial Marines M56 smart gun look-alike is not meant to hang an ammunition backpack underneath it. That defeats the purpose of the backpack, which is meant to distribute all of that ammunition weight in a centrally balanced location on the Iron Grenadier. It looks silly when it’s wedged under the weapon as an oversized magazine.
Now, as to why this figure comes with an FG42 paratrooper rifle with bayonet? I don’t know. Maybe they just thought it was a neat accessory, which doesn’t require much plastic to produce. I would have preferred a grenade launcher instead.
Your photography is excellent, as are your reviews. Too bad about the erroneous posing of the figure with the accessories, though. |
Point taken, bro, in my defense let me show you a photo taken from
the Toy Fair 2011 G.I. Joe Show.
It posed by people from Hasbro, its designed that way by Hasbro, thus I posed it same as Hasbro reps did

and thats several Toy events before its actual market release, so the gun and magazine/backpack combo was meant that way (they even glued the ammo chain to the backpack to make sure)...
I know the heavy magazine pack is hard to swallow, looking even at the IG's gun its past 100 lbs for the gun alone, then it has to carry an ammunition pack. Probably I might make mine pose realistic as a backpack, but hey, the large gun came with a slot and behold you can actually place it there or i could be wrong its just some design fluke.
If i were a real IG i would strain from carrying a heavy ammo pack at the same time balancing a heavy machine gun, so maybe for a change shift the load all in one place and lift it with one center of gravity to contend with. Well given youre a 300lb body builder too to lift such metal. For me, the pose was prime.
The reason, i find the accessories lame is that Hasbro didnt even bother to change the FG42 colors, which is similar to the original 25th Paratrooper. They could have given a black one, same as to the black and red ROC paratrooper.
And i dunno, i just dont see the sense why the HD backpack which was supposed to be for City Strike Destro ended up with this IG? I mean, if I chose to not to buy an IG, I get an incomplete toy? Well hasbro could have included some note on the packaging it was meant for that. So far I havent seen a gimmick like this among POCs, even if all of the accessories are interchangeable.
I hope that clears up the "erroneous" poses. Honestly, I could have written this all down, but hey I want more vivid images than text, and preserve its graphic layout for the review
