What was so special about Sigma Six anyway? the figures were too big and blocky looking. Too many crap versions of Snake Eyes. The only decent Sigma Six toys were Zartan and Destro and maybe the new character Stone. Wasn't Stone like a double agent for Sigma Six? Kinda like Chuckles or something?

They had some great vehicles. I just picked up a Dragonhawk and wished it was made for 3 3/4" figures. Love it!

S6 was pretty effing sick. The design team for the Sigma Joes worked on Xevoz and had moved on to make their on shit.
Like someone said earlier in the thread, we have several different flavors of ice cream because not everyone wants chocolate same for Joes, different strokes for different folks. |

The only reason a lot of collectors hated S6 stuff is because when it first came out, they cancelled the 3 3/4" line and the 12" line for a short time. Had they continued those lines while introducing S6, most people wouldn't have cared much, regardless of whether they decided to collect them too or not (sort of like how the Kreo and mini Joes now coexist with the 4" ME line).
I still feel the Sigma Six marketing push, utilizing BOTH the 8" (as replacement for the 12" segment) and the 3.75 line (since Sigma Six used most of the designs slated for Robot Rebellion anyway) would have been VERY successful given the strides the brand made in 2004 (to the point Hasbro had worked up TWO large vehicles for 2005) Quote:
In hindsight though, it was after the hiatus that we got the 25th line, which was a HUGE improvement over the newsculpt line that existed before the line was cancelled. So maybe S6 did GI Joe a big favor?
In all truth, 25th almost felt like the line was "starting over" and with hiatus of newsculpt product and the failure of 2.5" product, GI Joe lost a LOT of momentum it had garnered in the newsculpt days. Lost momentum we never have gotten back. Quote:

Frankly, I would cite Sigma Six as the last, great, TOY LINE.

The toys were o.k. The show sucked. The main problem with Sigma six was the price point. 10 to 15 dollars a figure made it hard for a kid to get the whole collection. The size was a factor for parents, storage would be a bitch. Not everybody's displaying this stuff like most of us do.

Waiting for Justin to post in this thread.
Little known fact of the Dragonhawk...a seat for 3.75" figures was mocked up but never produced. Damn shame...

I don't disagree with that, except that 12" was well dead by 2005 (and was largely irrelevant by 2003).
I still feel the Sigma Six marketing push, utilizing BOTH the 8" (as replacement for the 12" segment) and the 3.75 line (since Sigma Six used most of the designs slated for Robot Rebellion anyway) would have been VERY successful given the strides the brand made in 2004 (to the point Hasbro had worked up TWO large vehicles for 2005) That, however, it debatable. While the 25th line better catered to collectors, I really don't think it was until 2009 that the style surpassed newsculpt in terms of playability (and I still think the current crop of Joe figures, while nice collectibles, aren't terribly great TOYS). In all truth, 25th almost felt like the line was "starting over" and with hiatus of newsculpt product and the failure of 2.5" product, GI Joe lost a LOT of momentum it had garnered in the newsculpt days. Lost momentum we never have gotten back. It had a solid 2 year run with a LOT of product slated for release when it was dumped. All said, it probably had as much broad appeal as 25th (albeit to a different market). I'm inclined to cite its end more an issue relating to the cost/profit ratio of 25th figures (or, to be honest, any smaller scale would have done much the same) Sigma Six was a superbly designed line of quality action figures (who were INTENTIONALLY stylized). It combined the size, heft, details, and versatility of the 12" line with the characters, themes, and design elements of the 3.75 line. Frankly, I would cite Sigma Six as the last, great, TOY LINE. |

I didn't own it, or any other Sigma figs, but I absolutely agree. That S6 Lt. Stone was a thing of beauty. You had great character options, a great and unique design. With the eyepatch and spy thing going on he also had a really cool British Nick Fury aspect about him.
