There are at least two vintage two stores in the area. Dfw vintage in lewisville, as well as Dallas Vintage Toys in Dallas. Both cater to the vintage crowd. I have not been to Dallas vintage to say one way or another about prices. I have been to dfw vintage and prices are very good there. There is also a swap group that meets in carrollton. DFWJOE.com They are the same group that put on the recent show in grapevine.

Dallas Vintage Toys has good stuff but they're really high on most of it. They don't negotiate from my experience as well.

A note on my experience with DFW Vintage toys in Lewisville. I took in a box of stuff about 4 months ago for them to look at and was not able to make a deal. They seriously lowballed, and shoveled items (several boxed/carded) around in the tub not caring whether they were damaged or not. They even managed to break a couple of things, and when I turned down the lowball offer they literally dumped the items that they wanted to cherry pick for pennies, back in the tub.
I don't know about you, but until I pay for something, it's not mine to mistreat or handle roughly. As an occasional re-seller myself, I make it a practice to pay roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of what something is worth in a retail setting. Pretty standard stuff to maintain profitability, but I've never insulted anyone by offering Goodwill prices on well cared for or MIB stuff. Just my experience. |

True. I brought him a tub of old stuff myself and also got low balled. He took the tub in the back and when I took his offer anyway (they were items I really cared less about even though I could have sold them myself for way more) he didn't follow my initial request to get my tub back. I told him at the beginning I wanted my tub back with the smaller (IKEA) tubs inside it back as well, he only brought out the big tub when we were finishing the deal. I reminded him of the smaller tubs and he did go back and get them but he said he didn't remember seeing them. Honest mistake is possible, but with this other stuff we are discussing, it just makes me wonder a little more.
He also has "minions" that go buy new hot items from local retail and he buys the items from them for a small mark-up (so the minion gets a miniscule profit) and then re-sells them for DOUBLE that of retail. The stupid part is that people are ACTUALLY PAYING those prices! He said it is a service he provides so folks don't have to run around everywhere to get the new hot stuff. I call it scalping. TF Masterpiece Soundwave and TF Metroplex are current examples of the new hot items I am referring to. But, to tell MORE of the story, he does open one or 2 of each of those he gets and plays with them in the store and shows off how cool they are. For those, I have seen him sell those for less than the above-retail price he paid. You get a good deal if you are an opener, but the chances of being the one guy that gets that deal are slim. Granted, I am not above admitting I once was a scalper, but I since dropped that part of my practice (when I do get time to do shows anymore) as the negativity it breeds caused lower sales on the rest of my stuff as a whole. Bottom line, if DFW Vintage toys takes better care of the stuff he is offered, and drops the horrid scalping practices, I think he'll be here a long time and do very well. BUT he does need a good logo and a MUCH better location. The building he's in now is mico sized for what he has and it's located in an industrial area where you couldn't find it without your GPS or Google Maps app on your smart phone. ---------------------------------------- I still don't like Dallas Vintage Toys. Shaun has screwed so many of the Star Wars fandom in the past, that "tiger" has a long way to go to prove he's changed his stripes (to paraphrase the old saying).

I expect all the above in a retail setting.

Sadly some of the comic shops in the area do (or have previously done in some cases) the same scalping of "hot new toys" from regular retail stores.
Hey crock, when did you get the 4th Raven? I could swear it was only 3 when I stopped by.
