For a good example of this, one only needs to look as far as the Club's FSS. If the retail sales go away or keep going to discount (distribution is just as largely to blame), the only way we will get figures that we want is through things like the FSS.
They simply won't take the retail risk. Quote:
Once retailers realize that collectors are what really drive the market for action figures, then sales when improve. If a collector likes and will buy a figure, a kid sure will.
Cater to collectors, not kids and see what happens especially when it comes to case/wave ratios/distribution. Of course, inventory and ordering at the retail level needs to improve so all waves are found equally (just look at Marvel Universe and the Star Wars Vintage lines). For example, why else would IM3 and USM launch with the shittiest 5 PoA figures possible? GL was a bomb, TDKR was a bomb, and ASM was pretty close to a bomb for figure sales. Still, sculpt (as bad as some of them are) over articulation is what they believe is the answer.

Of course, inventory and ordering at the retail level needs to improve so all waves are found equally (just look at Marvel Universe and the Star Wars Vintage lines). There are currently about 75 million children in the US under the age of 10, WAY more than the few thousand who seriously collect and buy Joes. If half of those are boys, then that makes about 35 million hopefuls for buying GI JOE. Hasbro MUST target this group to sell the brand to, not to guys like us who are already "sold" on it. Sure they need to throw us some bones along the way, but in no way should they continue to build the brand of GI JOE around the collectors because it will simply not be enough. Good brands find ways to reinvent themselves when needed, stay fresh and on the cutting edge, and continue to bring new people into the fold. If Hasbro starts making toys only for the collectors, then the line will slowly decrease every year until they finally decide to retire it. The ONLY way GI JOE succeeds in the future is by bringing on a new generation of fans. Much like what happened with most of us in the early 80's. If 1982 didn't happen, I doubt there would anything of GI JOE left, except for a few old school 12" fans scattered about rehashing the old days. Pray that doesn't happen to us. |

$15 for MU is about the same as LCS prices! Maybe even cheaper.
Throw Prof. X and Jubilee in front of me for $15 each and I'd throw down $30 faster than you could imagine! Drew, there's an Alco in Pilot Point I think. Probably not too far from you if you want to check it out.

Picked up Lady Jaye, Battle Kata Roadblock, and Ninja Duel Snake Eyes. All are great figures. STILL looking for a Joe Colton. If anyone has an extra they would like to part with, please let me know. I haven't seen him anywhere.

You pretty much have to catch a full case to get him. The only time I've seen him is when there is a full case. Looks like he's 1st to go. I've seen a full case except missing him 3 times now.

Dark Ninja tends to be first. Colton and LJ run away shortly after. Anything else you can pretty much find. Really hoping for a less derpy eye re-issue later in the line.
