A few weeks ago I was out hunting for Retaliation and Kreo Figures and met a guy who for some reason has a surplus of joes in a room in his house. This last Friday I bought these off of him for reasonable prices. The lowlight was half the cost of Ebay prices.

Well, I'm not upset at those who post "look what I got" posts here. This is a forum and its here to share and discuss whatever you want including opinions. Surprisingly, there's even opinions on a sightings thread.
I mean, sometimes when I see that someone got their pre-orders, I at least know that my pre-order must be on the way. When someone posts that they found something at a TRU, but doesn't specify which, at least we know that TRU is getting inventory. BC someone posted something like that earlier, I stopped by my TRU just to look and of course, no Joes but I found this guy. Been on the lookout for that dude! This jacket is gonna look great on a custom LBC CC! I only wanted it for the hat and Jacket. PM me if you want the figure. Maybe a cheap trade?

You of all people should know what a sighting should be as you have been here for a while now. A good many of you including yourself have made the sightings thread into showcasing what you got not helping others get it.
It is nice that you help personal friends out in the big stashes you get but not everyone in Southern California knows you. The idea of a sighting is to update the entire community not just your buddies on where something was found. A few posts back you showed some hot wheels that you picked up. Those looked cool and if I was interested may want to pick up. Unfortunately you gave no indication where you got it. Do I really need to PM you guys to get the answer? As for the "I need to get it now" syndrome excuse, please no more excuses use the sighting forum as it was intended for.

Today as of 10:15am at TRU Atwater/Glendale:
Two cases of Avengers Assemble. Black Widow & Red Skull were there too. No new Retaliation or Marvel figures. For you Hobbit fans, they had a two foot section with new 6" figures and 5 pack of figures.

Jinx makes a good point and those who see things my way, also make a good point about sightings and this post. Whenever I see something, I post where it is...just the way I roll. There is a thread for "see what I got" and it's called the monthly hauls thread. If you don't want people to know where you are getting your Joes, don't post at all. Post in the Hauls thread and show off your 20 night vipers there. It's not about "having it not", it's about getting it period. I appreciate that Jinx helps fellow Tankers and that is a great thing. I'm also very happy to see all of the great hauls he gets...just not in the sightings thread. I am now in San Diego..so the Merced cracks need to cease. I support this website and everything it offers...lets just post where appropriate and help each other when we can.

Yes, it's true. I have been here long enough to know what the sightings threads are for. I admit that I have gotten carried away and have turned it into a "look what I got" thread, when I already have the monthly Toys & G.I. Joe Hauls thread. 90% of my hauls are always from Toys R Us and I don't mention which ones because I tend to grab as much as I can to help out other 'Tankers' like I have been doing for the past year. I know what it's like to run out to a store after reading a post on sightings to end up coming back home empty handed. Hence another reason I don't post where I got the stuff. So as of today, I'll be doing my part of being more informative.
This ultimately helps people in not wasting time going to a store that has already been cleaned out the day prior with no reports to the effect. That same person will get confused on why nothing has been restocked for days if they come day after day day at opening. The cycle times in between product distribution can be anywhere from a week to two weeks for some stores. Target used to be 3-5 days but has lengthen considerably over the years. By not reporting it gives the perception that product is "coming just around the corner" to the store when frankly it could be quite the opposite and furthest from the truth. I understand some collectors use this as a strategy to ward off competitors, real and imaginary, but it is just plain dirty. If you do not want to disclose where you got the item from than don't post in sightings. If you are truly in it for yourself there no strategic reason to post anyway in the sightings thread if you think about it. You still keep competitors away from your territory (learned that from a hot wheel collectors-too funny) by them not knowing where you get your stuff. If you do post without location it comes across as "look at what I have and/or possibly to sale to you at the right price". We do not need anymore Agent GHQ or fordjuses in collecting as there are plenty of them but by not sighting you are in no way inhibiting people like this. These guys are way ahead of the curve and don't need the info that is posted online. They go to great lengths to protect their interests. The only people you hurt are the people that actually want to collect and yes that includes troops builders. Hate them or love them, troop builders will always exist in star wars and in joes. Some turn to the excessive darkside like Agent GHQ but most are rather mild. I understand as Lance8358 pointed out that when people get items in the mail from the club people would like to know that their items are coming in. That is and will forever be a sighting no change there. As for people who post, if someone beat me to a toy that was sighted on this board at a specific store, so be it, that is part of the hunt. I can cross off or keep a close eye on the store but ultimately s**t happens. A tiny morsel of information is better than no morsel at all. Good luck to all in your hunting! |
