Comic-Con was a massive bust today as far as getting the exclusives went. I got in the door at 6, was near one of the first people in, yet, somehow, the line was already closed off at HasbroToyShop by the time I got to it. And of course it was the usual assholey security people who have no idea what they're doing. Some of the Hasbro folk there weren't too friendly either.
Across the way, at the actual Hasbro booth, there were some cool folks with some really nice looking product that's coming in upcoming months. They also made some amazing dioramas that I wish were actual Joe playsets. Still not sure if I'll even be able to get the Destros :( They said something about getting numbers between 9 and 9:30 tomorrow, which 1, is early, but 2... last year I remember even people with numbers or tickets were turned away by the obnoxious security people. I don't know if HTS should get a bigger/better booth, or if it's the fault of the Elite nazis. Anyone else have issues? (And damn, did people sprint to the HTS booth or what?) Oh- and not that I'm buying anything from Mattel but they had signs up that pros/vendors/press weren't allowed to buy anything on "Preview Night." Which - if I wanted anything from them, would be a bummer as I'm with a press badge. Didn't know that was worth punishing over. I totally understand! I was one of the first and by the time I got there it was already closed...grrr....i kept going back a couple of times and noticed new people at the end of the line and was told some were let in...grrr again.... then around 8:29 I came back and saw people going in but some being rejected. Then I was told that if I buy the Charity Book "insights" by gianni lopergolo (Insight by Gianni Lopergolo) to support lou gehrigs disease I would be let in. I purchased it (very good book) and sure enough I was in and was able to get the joes exclusives and marvel universe...also picked up the marvel universe nick fury! |

Went to Carmel Mountain Target today and I found and bought the Ice Dagger vehicle, Helix, Ice Viper, Crimson Neo-Viper, and Elite Viper.
They had one Cobra Eels and Flash as well, but I left them as these two are way too ugly for my tastes; which is sad because I love both original 1980s figures/characters. |

I haven't gone to SDCC in 5 or 6 years. The crowds are just too much. It's too costly. And internet coverage is really good. Just not worth the time and money.
It pays that my friend goes ever years and picks up any exclusives for me. He's got a contact at Hasbro that gives him VIP status and takes him right past the lines at HTS. He scooped up my Marvel Universe and Destro pack with no effort. Last year, he got me both Cobra Commanders as well. |

The Comic-Con Zoo continued yesterday... the G.I. Joe morning panel was tough to get into because people were going in early to save their seats for Transformers.
Was able to get a pass to HasbroToyShop for the "4:00 line." Got there at 3:50, as did a bunch of others that I was standing around, but they wouldn't let us get in any line yet. Then when they did create a line, they purposely changed up where the line would start just to be a-holes. We stayed behind the "End of Line" guy, saw some obnoxiousness from Comic-Con staff but eventually seemed to win them over, when this clearly PMSing Hasbro employee letting people in was really nasty and told them and us that we were "not in line," and again, changed where the "new line" started. So basically, people who showed up an hour later than us got in. I think our group eventually made it in around 5:40. I'm thankful to have made it in, but that booth had no idea what to do about line and crowd management. The funny thing is, by having a "line waiting for the line," we weren't blocking any walkways or anything like that - it was only when they decided to change up where the line was a second time that it became a mess! By the time we got up there, the B&W Captain Americas were gone but I was able to get an Invaders set and two Destro packs - one to open so I can make a Doctor Who figure out of it. Still, it was a lot more drama than it needed to be... I don't think Hasbro will learn. |

Sorry to hear all of you from California are having such a rough time at ComiCon. I live in SD and went once around eight years ago out of complete curiosity and although I've never been into comic books, thought it was pretty interesting. The one thing that I didn't have to deal with was the crazy crowds and a-hole security people you all keep running into. Seems like I went when it was still actually fun and not a complete cluster.
Hope you're able to still enjoy yourselves down here. |

On another note: Have any local San Diegans cut back, or planning on cutting back, on toy hunting this weekend since we are now suddenly inundated with other collectors from around the country that might be out in droves looking for the action figures that are probably cheaper in local stores than at Comic Con? Yeah, the first one I went too was back in 1995. Back then it was quite manageable in terms of crowds, or lack there-of, and walking around was a breeze. I wasn't into collecting anything back then, however, I did enjoy seeing all the anime stuff and videogame related stuff since that was my only interest back then and still is. However, as the years progressed and my interest in action figure collecting grew, it's just become one big cluster ____ of people that I no longer can handle the show! The last one I went too was in 2007, and it will probably be the last one I ever go too. BTW: I am a San Diego resident too.
