Hey Guys! - Just a quick FYI, the Wife just called me from a Walgreens over near FIU. Forgive my ignorance as all she said was "Hey, I'm at the Walgreens near school." You guys would probably have a better idea...107th? does that sound right?
Anyway, she said that they have Joes there. Which joes, of course, I don't know (that would be too logical). If that's anyone's hunting grounds, you may want to take a look. This may, of course, be old stock and old news, so if it is, mea culpa mi amicos. |

My post here isnt Joe sightes or related, but I do need some information from fellow Florida tankers about well Florida!
I live in Ohio and the job market for what i do is going down hill and i have been contact by a head hunter or recruiter stating theres plenty HIT (Health Information Technology) Jobs in Tampa Bay and in Jacksonville area. I have questions if anyone can help me thats great and much appreicated but if not thats cool too. As far as visiting Florida I've been to Destin, Panama and Pensacola and thats it. But im wondering about cost of living, the effects of weather, costs of homes and the economy in these two areas. Pretty much, i will have to make a decision fairly quickly if I want to moved down there or my next choice would be Dallas, TX and thats not me. or Phoenix, AZ then now your talking, but just tired of the job market here in Ohio and I got laid off once and it looks it might happen again after the new year (yay me) So any help and information about these two areas in Florida would be soo helpful. My occupation is an Epic Analyst/Builder for Ambulatory. Thanks for your help and time |

LV - The recruiter is correct. There's a TON of jobs down here for accredited techs (MCSA/MCSE/CCNA). There's just no people to fill the roles.
Be forewarned though - The wage that you would normally expect? Shave at least 10 - 15% off of that as employers feel that we should pay a "sunshine tax" down here in FL. I know this because I've lived in 5 different states. The cost of living is dramatically lower down here. There's no State tax. Being that you're coming from OH...trust me when I tell you this as someone who lived in both MI and MN...saying goodbye to the cold has been AWESOME. Cold down here? 65 degrees. |

I really appreciate the info and it means alot! For what im accredited for im already not making what I should, but he did state that i would get alot more if i moved down there and would pay for my moving expense as well. Depending if the hospital wanted my services of course. As for me, born and raised in Ohio and I've been married now for 10 ten years and my wife hates the weather and i do too so maybe this will be a good turn out for me. Could i ask what part of FL do you live in C.I.A.D? Cold up here? yep a brisk 31 degrees today. I do healthcare programming with an app called Epic which helps the end users take care of patients and makes the workflows easier for nurses and docs. He said both areas are blooming with this application down there and not alot of people to support it. Last edited by Laser Viper; 11-12-2013 at 04:15 PM.. |

Well, I warn you now...although the change of climate is awesome, 70 degree Christmas is...well, kinda odd (for those that aren't used to it). When I first moved to FL, I lived in the Tampa area (roughly an hour northwest of Tampa). Now I live in the Miami Metro Area (Right near da beach. BWOOOY! /halfbaked) Quote:

I would hate for you to take my advice and then hate it down here...but I can tell you this without a doubt: Your cost of living will be 2/3rds what it is back north, your pace will definitely slow down...and within a year or 2? 65 degrees will give you a chill, I kid you not! lol UGH! BURN IT WITH FIRE! I <3 MD, but hate driving around. 475/675/95 can kiss my buttocks. |
