Welcome to the Bay Area Oliverbox! Safety Harbor is probably 10 minutes from me (I'm in Largo). There are also a couple of really cool Joe-heads around here...
When you get down here, I'll give you the Pinellas County Primer and show you where all the cool stores are! Emerals City is ok, but they ARE very high priced.

Funny you should mention that TRU. I think that is by far the worst TRU in all the 305 area code!
I dropped by there today at about 5:00 p.m., walked the starwars isle were they keep the 30 CC's theyve had since last year. My kids picked out some stuff, my wife is paying so I casualy aske the cashier: me: Hey, by chance do you know when the new GI Joe movie toys are comming in? (I already know the answer!) cashier: The movie toys? you mean the superhero movie? thier right there! (points in the wrong direction of the Avengers display.) Me: No no, thats "The Avengers" movie I was asking about something called "GI Joe". Its a movie comming out next month, its like army toys, they were real popular in the 80's, Like you could not grow up in America and not know who the REAL AMERICAN HEROES were! Cashier: (Now not even looking at me) I grew up in Cuba! My wife: (looking at me all angry) Really? cant you look online? did you know what every book was and when every book was released when you worked at Borders? me: yes I did! I had to. and never mind I'll just keep coming back till you have them. BTW I used to work at the TRU in International mall but that was way back in 2003. One of my old co-workers is now store manager and she told me she recieved the Retaliation shipment already. They have a street date of 5/26. Unfortunetly her store is being remodeled and she can not display them now because they are clossing next week for a couple of months untill the remodel is done. That means that most TRUs here already have them sitting in the back.

"grew up". Her exact words were "i grew up in Cuba" I have no idea where she was born nor do I care man. I for example was born right here in FL but I grew up in Japan and Colombia. My dad left the military when I was six or seven and then moved back stateside. I still remember watching gi joe in el espanol though!

Fortunately, eventhough we were starting out, my parents would buy me joes occasionally once we got here. Obviously, i had missed anything before 89, so watching the cartoon was bittersweet, since i could not buy a Flint or a non-Python-Patrol Viper or Trooper. Then came neon along with spring missile launchers and high school. I rediscovered joes with eBay in the late 90's. Most of my pre- 89 holy grails came from a friend who had to sell his collection. Eventually, i was army-building and having trouble finding where to store everything. In short: that TRU cashier is awful at her job and the Kendall TRU does suck. It's the closest i have, yet i hardly use it. Kendall Target is going backwards! They somehow got a 5th Renegades CC! They couldn't sell 4 for months and now they have 5? I'm hoping the last waves find their way to Ross/Marshalls/TJMaxx. Last edited by heltskelt; 05-04-2012 at 10:08 AM.. |

Hey Helt, I know this is way off-topic but I gotta ask since you mentioned GI Joe not airing in Peru. The first cartoons I remember watching were transformers, GI Joe and this one cartoon ive never seen state side. It was about a futuristic submarine that transformed into a battle ship. Think GI Joe meets Robotech but underwater. It was def Japanese. I saw it in Colombia during the early 80s. Incidently while my dad was stationed in Japan he bought me a coloring book about it it was all in Japanese and I never got a name. I've searched for years but no one in the U.S. remembers seeing it. Did you ever see anything like that air in Peru?

Her "I grew up in Cuba" remark is lazy and rude. I grew up in Hoduras, my brother and I watched GI JOE in spanish, we never had the toys, but when we moved to the US in 87, I was able to get some figures, and vehicles.

^ man, they had some good shows down in South America though. I remember Mazinger Zeta was uncencored. I only ever saw it here on Telemundo in the mid 90s and all the death scenes were edited out.
They also had Ulysses 31. Never saw that here, maybe I missed it. They had Guerreros Del Zodiaco almost a full decade before it was Saint Saya.

I'm thinking I missed SS at TRU in plantation. Today they had on the pegs a SciFi, renegades Scarlett, Ripcord, and Troopers.

Did you see Hazard Vipers, Cobra Vipers or Cobra Blueshirts? They were the carry forwards that distinguish the SS case.
