I was at the old CP near Toys R Us on 6251 Glenway Avenue. This was a Drug Emporium a few years ago. I went there a couple of days ago and took pictures of the old CP building. It still has the 2 small window arches and the large main window arch. The funny thing is I was really excited going on this Children's Palace road trip that when I drove up this big long hill for a split second I thought I was actually going to a CP. When I pulled into the parking lot I saw the building and was like holy crap there is an old CP. How I wish they were still open :( Anyways I got some cool info. I contacted a building department in Alabama and I asked if they had any blue prints of the old CP store. They called me today and are sending me a copy of the front elevation drawing and a copy of the floor plan of the store. I am pretty excited to get a copy of the floor plan. I have been trying to remember what the inside of CP looked like and can't remember. But seeing a copy of the floor plan might jog my memory. |

I looked at a picture on Google Earth of the CP/ Big Lots. This looks like an old school Toys R Us. I am not sure, I'll try and contact the building department to find out. I could be totally wrong but the front entrance looks like on old style Toys R Us. In Trotwood, Ohio near the old Salem Mall there was a Toys R Us that went out of business and it had the same kind of facade.

STAPLES TO OPEN NEW STORE Staples, the office supplies warehouse, is opening a new store in Colerain Township. The store will open March 16 in the former Children's Palace location, 8465 Colerain Ave. This marks the fifth Staples store in Greater Cincinnati. The 25,000-square-foot store will employ 35 to 40 people, 10 of them full time. ... Quote:

CHILDREN'S PALACE CLOSING The four Children's Palace toy stores in Greater Cincinnati will close following a $5.5 million liquidation sale, putting about 120 employees out of business. These stores, along with 67 across the country are closing after parent company, Child World Inc. failed to find a buyer to pull it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In addition to Western Hills, Children's Palace has stores in Colerain, Florence and Springdale. Sorry for the wrong address... I'm glad you mentioned something |

Also found an article that said there were as many as 4 CPs in Cincinnati at one point...
I found this info by going to NewsLibrary.com - newspaper archive, clipping service - newspapers and other news sources and searching on "children's palace colerain". Maybe you can dig up some additional info on the other locations here. Python, another great find. That newspaper site is pretty cool. I did not know Cincinnati had 4 Children's Palace toy stores. That is crazy. |

I saw one of the other articles on that site gave the total number of stores in Ohio. I want to say about 60, but don't hold me to that. My short-term memory sucks. I wish you lots of luck finding them all, bro! |

Since they have added a little cell phone boutique in front of the building near the road and some other little odds and ends but I believe the actual building is still in place just remodeled. I also believe after the CP closed, a TRU moved into there for a few years before moving to another location around the corner and down the street about two blocks.

The old CP on Colerein Ave was actually down by Ronald Regan highway. There was a Kmart next door to it. The majority of the plaza was torn down for a Wal-Mart so nothing was left of the original building. Same thing in Florence (where a Staples now stands.)
On vacation last year, we passed thru Huntington, WV. A Michaels had gone into the old Cp building. I'm pretty sure it was still intact (maybe even w/the arches but I'm not for sure...) After remembering all this, I really feel old... |

Any Tanker in the Sandusky, Ohio area? I found some info that said there were two proto-type 20k square foot Child World store's built in Paduka, KY and Sandusky, Ohio. Does anyone know if this store was ever built? If so is there a business currently operating in the old Child World store?
Any information you might have would be much appreciated. |
