figures you're most worried about...

after watching the behind the scenes teaser on the ARAH sideshow line.... i started to get a bit worried. real world designs with bits of what made them classic? well, that's all well and good with some (like snake eyes) but what about destro? or zartan or storm shadow? there's nothing 'real world' about them. at least not modern real world like they're going for. i mean, they say the comic is just half way to the level of realism they want. jeeze, i always thought any realer and the whole concept would lose credibility.

i'm actually worried about shipwreck. he was always my favorite growing up, and now i'm wondering if they'll mess him up. i mean, buttoned shirt, bell-bottoms with a sailor hat is easy enough... but what if that's not "practical" enough for them and give him a generic wet suit with a sailor hat as the exclusive? i'm kinda worried.

anyone else thinking this take might not work out so well?

Sideshow's NOT dumb, one major thing they do is listen to their fanbase. the "realism" aspect that they're striving for is more equipment based than anything else. I expect what we will see will probobly be a mix of GI joe reloaded designes, with a more classic feel. the design sheet for cobra commander is a good example of this.
Also, if it's something that truly worries you, contact sideshow directly, either via e-mail, their chatroom, or the ask sideshow section of the freaks board. the exects, and sculptors, and designers frequent it. (http://www.sideshowcollectors.com )

And don't forget that hasbro gets to approve the final design.

I was actually very encouraged when I heard that from Sideshow. I think having roots in reality is one of the strengths of the series (which is why Cobra-La wasn't so well received back in the 80s). The Snake Eyes looks amazing and I can't wait to see who they offer next from the Joes.

Personally, I'm more interested in GI Joe characters than Cobra characters, so I'll be passing on the Cobra Troopers and Cobra Commander (even though the concept work does look awesome). Although I'd still be interested to see what they do with Destro (there is a historical basis for the mask) and the Crimson Guard.

if they do Shipwreck, it'd probably be based off of newer blue shirt and knit cap version.

Stormshadow could be done very well.

only one I'd be worried about is Cobra Viper. alot of ways could go wrong but so far I've been impressed by sideshow.

I'll never find myself worrying about a GI Joe figure... A new comic or cartoon maybe, but not a toy.

I kind of got over the "worrying about toys" thing around the time I turned 12.

They could conceivably do a sweater look over his RAH-style blue short-sleeved shirt, and include both a knit cap and his traditional navy headdress as well. Two version in one maybe?
