I can't hardly make it through an episode anymore. Some of it's a little worse than I remember (anything with Timber or Polly is pretty much awful) but some of it's... OK. My son stopped playing on-line long enough to sit down and watch a few episodes of Pyramid of Darkness and the singing and costumes didn't seem to bother him, he thought it was pretty funny. I guess we tend to take Joe a little too seriously in our old age

You know, when I bought Rhino's mini-series set when it came out, it was the first time I'd watched G.I. Joe in probably close to a decade. Before the first episode was over, I was saying to myself, "The flaws of this show really stand out a lot more now that I'm older." But I didn't really care. Even though I can see the flaws and cheesier moments nowadays, I still just enjoy watching it and simply don't take it all very seriously. I just find it a fun, sometimes-goofy cartoon to watch.

Despite some of the odd stuff there are a few good episodes besides the first two mini-series.
All right, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these?! Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

There are both good and bad eps. If you didn't mind the tone of the first two mini series, you should be able to make it through the rest of the show okay.
And yeah, imho, people complaining about the new movie must have forgotten the first one. At least there's no Cobra-La in the new one, nothing could be that bad.

As a kid these were great. I think if you start watching as an adult, you lose that imagination that made it so great as a kid. I grew up on these and know that they might be cheesy looking at them now, but I love them despite how bad the plots were.
F5'ing since Slaughtergate '10!
I have extra MOTUC figures for anyone looking.

As for the episode, some have cheesy, childish subject matter (but then again this is a children's show) but there are more serious stories too like "There's no place like Springfield", & "Worlds without end" to name a couple
Same goes for the Transformers series, some are good stories and then you have things like "The girl who loved Powerglide"

Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I think the cartoon is one of the best writing wise ever produced, but then I'm a huge fan of escapist entertainment.
The realer something is the less I like it.
Fatal Fluffies may have been a low point, though.
I just watched Cold Slither and Skeletons in the Closet this morning.
I especially love the characterizations of Destro and Baroness, and the opening sequences in the latter.

When the cartoon originally came out was about the time I lost interest in Joes back in the 80's. Not only the silly storylines, but also that no one could shoot the broad side of a barn, and when they did shoot aircraft, everyone had parachutes (even helicopter pilots). These days I can watch them and enjoy, understanding it is light entertainment meant for kids. Still beats the crap out of most of kids programming today.
I am not sure why people defend the cartoon and say the movie will suck. Even the comic book had some ridiculous story arcs and seemed to break it's own continuity.

Yeah, Pyramid of Darkness had its wacky moments. There are hundreds of inexplicable logic issues in that particular serial. I, unfortunately, sat down about 7 years ago and tried to cover all five episodes in detail:
In the course, I came up with a GI Joe Drinking Game-- which included a few instances tied to Timber and Polly and their inexplicable ability to understand English from anyone. (Example: I crack up when Shipwreck says to Timber: "here, you work the handcart while I steer!")
But to answer your original question: IMO, the episodes do not get any better. They maintain roughly the same level of cheese presented in "Pyramid". How much you prefer to enjoy them on a serious or camp basis is entirely up to you.
