*sigh* I hate to post this at my eighth post and having only been here for like three days. I haven't watched the cartoon since the monstrosity that was Extreme with any consistency so, take that for what you will. I saw a few episode of Sigma before they cut it and maybe a few clips of the VvV deal.
Um, yeah, just saw Resolute over the weekend as a precursor to the movie. Uh, I really don't get all the hype. It kinda... sucked.
Things that didn't work for me:
4 actors. What? I'm okay with the numbers but most of the voices sounded the same and I say that because I'm a sound guy and I've been imitating voices and sounds since ARAH first came out. It's sort of a... grandfather passed on thing. Please, if you choose to limit your actors, don't limit yourself to actors with such a low range of available voices. For one show. I respect all four actors and know their vocal range, but it's distracting when I can tell it's all the same person because it's on one show.
Cursing. Not the words for those who will write me off based on that. This is related to the voices. The words don't sound right. They never do in Resolute. They are ill-timed or said without proper emphasis or motivation. Sorry, don't throw in language just to make it "mature". Doesn't cut it here.
It felt like a clip show or web series (yes, I know it was). It was disjunct. Very unsettling scene switches that didn't fit and scenes that felt out of place.
And seriously, this was one of my biggest gripes: Why is this a more "mature" show where "anyone can die" and we have Vipers blasting away, point-blank at Duke and Scarlett and they can't hit them? I'm surprised DnS didn't stand there having a conversation (oh wait...) while the terrible aims of their enemy take down each other! That worked in 80s Transformers and Joe but even as early as Beast Wars people actually got hit now and again. Now you want to say I can walk up to any named Joe and as long as it serves the purposes of the story, I can miss him (or her) from three feet away? No. These guys (Stormtroopers?) are highly trained mercenaries (or professionals perhaps) who probably undergo as much training as the Joes, at least initially. Anyway, enough on that. That's almost a whole other post there...
What did I like? (or should this be "What did I like"?):
SS/SE. That all worked for me. Finality to their life-long battle? Yeah, that was good, too.
Dial Tone. She was unneccesary. Completely. But I liked her and the idea of her (and she is in the movie, I looked for her, she is the female comm-tech that has one sentence about the beginning of Hawk joining the final battle).
Cobra. As in, the Big C. He wasn't Latta. He didn't have to be. He was his own Cobra and it was great.

the IDEA of Resolute... an upgrade and some edge (and the toys) were what I took away from it. otherwise the cartoon (as i've stated before)
had (although more so than ROC) very little effect on me.
but then again 12 5 minute episodes is hardly an hour of entertainment.
it was like they couldn't convince adult swim to run it unless it was
in 5 minute episodes on their website and then a couple times on tv
or whatever. i'm not saying it sucked, and it was by all means less
cheesed up than the original cartoon... and it was (in my opinion)
better than ROC... but I'm still waiting for something better than
ANY incarnation we've seen thus far.

This is a great question. I do not know. In retrospect, it is a great, great rendition of a modern GI JOE theme. I loved it. I wish they would come out with more Resolute figs. They were fantastic.
