Overall, I liked and enjoyed it.
The animation and character designs were great. I liked most of the voices, except for Flint who I thought sounded too much like Gung-Ho, and Stalker sounded like Cleavland from "The Family Guy." Don't really dig the dreads on Stalker either.
The story was a little cliche with the basic G.I.Joe plot.
Cobra has a super weapon. G.I.Joe must go to at least three different environments to stop it.
Snow - Siberia
Jungle - HARRP
Under water - We'll substitute the ionosphere for under water.
Then come together for a final battle wherever Cobra is located.
I liked Cobra Commander being ruthless (FINALLY!), but I really didn't think he needed to refer to how he acted in the past. Just be ruthless. We don't need an explanation. We're just glad you've got a pair finally.
I didn't think there was a need for the Snake-Eyes / Storm Shadow subplot, just because of the time restraints of the format. I didn't care for Storm Shadow. He reminded me too much of Anakin
Skywalker. Whenever somebody says, "I hate you!" it just reminds me of a child throwing a tantrum. I didn't mind that Storm Shadow dying at all, because he began to get on my nerves. Their story was a little cliche as well. As soon as Storm Shadow said the Hard Master didn't teach Snake-Eyes the 7th Step, you knew he did and that's how Snake-Eyes would win.
The end did wrap up a little fast, but that goes back to the time restraints due to the format. This could have been a whole lot better at 2 or 2 1/2 hours.
Best parts - Duke, Roadblock, and Gung-Ho's characterizations, updated designs, the action, and the fight choreography.
I personally think this is Hasbro's gift to us older fans as a wrap up of the Real American Hero continuity, and if they invest in any more animation, it will be something they can capitalize on. It will be for kids, based of the Rise of Cobra continuity, so they can sell more toys.
Looking for at reasonable prices:

I Liked Tunnel Rat but I didn't think he was the one to "lead" the air assault team. I figured you should have like Payload or someone who knows of atmospheric pressure running that show with TR doing the explosives.
I'm fine with killing off Bazooka because he was a big comedy relief just like Alpine, quick kick, leatherneck & Wetsuit. Resolute does not have a need for comedy.
However, killing off Major Bludd??? He was never portrayed as a clown or comic relief. He actually was always rather cool to me. His file card has a great story (very Hitler'esque), he has a cool name and I'd have loved to see an edgier version of him. Maybe they will make more episodes that show him as a bad ass and a real back-story around a power-grab that made Cobra Commander hate him so much to want to kill him. If anything, Destro always talked down to CC. I figure there's not much room for talking down and CC's new position on being compitent.
I felt CC explained himself more than needed. He could have just talked like he did and mentioned cutting Major Bludd for incompitence. That would have done it (without the need to say no more failures, no more baffonery... etc).
I wish Dr. Mindbender were part of it.
I am upset they killed off Zartan & Storm Shadow. I mean even if Z survived the shot at close range from Duke, how could have have gotten out from that blast? Would seem incredibly unlikely. SS and SE's back story was pretty good IMO.
And you're right. There was so much time wasted on panning the Flagg. WTF???

I wanted to get something figured out. So the Particle Cannon, worked because of the HAARP device warming the atmosphere... and the balloons that Tunnel Rat had to blow up were only part of the communications array? Is that right?
I got a little confused on all that at the end.

I didnt care for it. I give it about a 3 outta 10. As a major fan of cobra, it had the same problem the 1984 series had for me; Cobra was a bunch of inept weaklings and GI JOE are bunch of indestructable super heroes.
Only in 2009, while cobra still cant hit the broad side of a barn, joes can defeat automatic rifles with hokey bullet time effects, semi automatic pistols and swords apparently. Sure cobra wiped out Moscow, but the way it was portrayed was of little consequence. Heres my complaint list:
- Half the cast sounded like they were speaking through gritted teeth, it came off as hokey and forced
- Gung ho is a tech expert now?! (I know someone's gonna say he was just relaying what dial-tone told him)
- Storm Shadow and Zartan were one dimensional blathering idiots
- Joes are bullet-proof, explosion proof, and defeat automatic rifles with hand guns
- Duke was shot in the ribcage, but led a full scale assualt on springfield
like 2 hours later
- The ENTIRE flag was evacuated in a matter of like 5 minutes
- Beachead didnt even talk
- The entire snow base infiltration by duke and scarlett, they shoulda been dead like 50 times over
- When they had just killed like umpteen cobras like nothing scarlett offers to let zartan to "just walk away"?!! (sure someone will say she was distracting/buying time)
- So we're to believe when the crap hit the fan, the troops just sat there and let cobra commander slaughter them, just for the sake for hammering home that he is teh EVIL (yeah he coulda shot them in the back or something)
Thats just off the top of my head. Before anyone paints me as some kinda 1984 nostalgic, I gotta say, I never even liked the cartoon back in the day. I liked the toys and the filecards, but the "superheroness" of the joes was a big turnoff then, and its an even bigger one now. That kinda crap was necessary in 1984, but I find it unacceptible in 2009. I can only hope cobra is portrayed closer to the file cards in the movie

Did I miss the resolute B.A.T.s? I didn't see them anywhere. Hasbro made toys of them, but I didn't see them in the show.

Yeah, the bullet-time flipping and flopping only works in the Matrix. Bay does that shit and it drives me nuts, I know we have to suspend disbelief to some degree, but there are some rules of physics that still need to be made...Sure Snake Eyes was able to do some ridiculous stuff that a human can't do, but I write that off as ninja superhumanness, but with Scarlett and Duke zipping around like Neo and Trinity and not getting hit was a bit much. At least Duke got hit, but I agree, it's silly that 2 hours later he was Capt. Badass again. So was Snake Eyes, and he HAD to have recently had his entire hand chopped in two (all of this occurred within 24 hours). Grab his outer fingers and pull, and his hand would snap like a wishbone.
I think the reason for panning on the Flagg so much was because there was a lot of rendering involved, and someone was overproud of their work on it (it WAS good modeling) but sometimes it panned a full 360 around the vessel, and then did a fade inside. With time so short, it was wasted time.
Good call on the 3 environments thing, it looks like ROC is doing the same thing. Underwater, snow, and desert at least, not to mention urban and whatever else they throw in. I never thought about it that way, but it feels like Joes need to be all over to be realistic. I think it spreads the story a tad thin.

Just a few observations:
I think Ellis intended Cobra Commander to be vaporized. The little "closer" (on the computer screen) at the end just stinks of Hasbro tacking something on for the off-chance they decide to continue anything with this (at least anything that moves forward in the timeline). Even so, the "stinger" at the end could very well be read as "completely vaporized." Cobra Commander's reaction certainly didn't seem like he thought he'd be able to get out. Not much point in "putting on a show" if Duke's already left the room.
This really did come across like an "end" for the RAH G.I. Joe (at least the Tooni-verse), and quite frankly if that were the case, I'd be OK with it, because it was a pretty good end.
Aside from the Duke/Scarlett thing anyway.

flint and lady jaye needed WWWAAAYYYY more screen time. so far my fave parts were where gung-ho and roadblock were takin on destro and explosive undies baroness (had to toss that in there that was classic). roadblock laughing maniacally was just awesome and i like how gung-how had a shirt and stuff instead of looking like the lost village person.
