GI Joe on WGN's Bozo

Here's something I remembered while jumping around the boards: GI Joe cartoons on WGN's "Bozo the Clown". Probably around early 1987, after the cartoon had been around for awhile, WGN chopped up some of the Season One episodes and aired them on Bozo's daily show. Instead of the old Warner Bros or Woody Woodpecker cartoons, they turned to GI joe cartoons to keep things fresh. They'd show one segment of an episode, once a day. So, basically, it took them three full days to air an entire episode of GI Joe.

Now, the funny part about is, I remember Bozo introducing the segments. Sorta' like the late 80's Sgt. Slaughter introductions. Bozo would say stuff like: "last time, GI Joe was in Africa tracking down a satellite and were attacked by WILD APES--what's gonna' happen now?!" Since WGN's Bozo was a pretty quick-witted guy (and would bust out some genuinely funny ad lib one-liners and comebacks), I'm wondering if anybody recalls any goofy riffs or introductions he did for the GI joe segments. A YouTube search isn't turning up any decent results, so please share any tidbits.

As a kid in Chicago, if you didn't watch Bozo your parents must have kept you in a tiger cage under the stairs. Unfortunately in 82 we were already in Arizona with no Bozo in site, only Wallice and Ladmo. I considered them wannabe Bozos but, they were the shit to AZ kids so I kept that to myself!

The original Bozo used to scare the sh*t out of me as a wee lad. I think it was the hair. But I caught WGN's version via cable, while I had the chicken pox around age 12, and he cracked me up.

I used to occasionally watch the "Grand! Prize! Game!" and those buckets before going to school...in 12th grade. Surprisingly, a lot of my classmates did, too. WGN's Bozo was just a great host.

Even though I was scared of clowns like Bozo growing up, I loved Denver's own Blinky the Clown. Nowhere near the production level of WGN's Bozo, but he was a friendly "hobo clown" who didn't scare me. Coincidentally, I first saw the commercial for "GI Joe #1" on Blinky's show in 1982.

I remember the grand prize game and GI Joe. We didn't get WGN, but my grandma did so when we went there (a couple times a year) we would watch it.

Growing up the best thing about after school cartoons was this, I would watch the Flintstones, GI Joe, Transformers, and MASK. After MASK was over, you'd flip it to WGN, and provided there wasn't a Cubs game on, I would rewatch all the same cartoons.
