Arron- what you wrote really opened my eyes to realizing why some people dont really care for the original JOE costumes and colors. If you didn't grow up with them, then I can see how they might seem a little outdated. As for me, I used to love G.I. JOE and would watch it whenever I could! I grew up with the original colors and so to me, the new G.I. JOEs costumes and colors don't necessarily suck, they are pretty cool, but for me, it just doesn't feel like G.I. JOE and they might as well take the G.I. JOE name off of it and call it something else.
Here are the JOE's that I customized and painted into the Original colors and uniforms.

I wasn't born until 1984 and was like you spending my childhood in a very small town far away from any city. we had no cable and one TV. I had one figure to start with and didn't even know he was a GI Joe until my older cousin told me it was cobra commander. I didn't get another one til 1993 and that was Snow Storm. never read the comics. never watched the cartoons. I didn't get into G.I. Joe until after basic training. My Drill Instructor was really into snake eyes. This was my introduction to the line. I bought a few VvV figures from the dollar store. It wasn't until the 25th anniversary line began that I was hooked. now I'm buying up any GI Joe I can find.

I have to agree with RECON, if your not "from that time" the excitment of coming home from school and watching gi joe on tv just isnt there. thats still a special place that i wish i could go back to, the best was saturdays, when you could watch it and play at the same time, and when they ran the movie OH MAN! that was a good week.....damn i miss being a kid some times

I'm with the original poster... lived in an area without cable, never saw more than a couple episodes when I was at a friend's house. I remember him showing me the "cold slither" one because he thought the Dreadnok song was cool.
Like several toy properties back then, I was into the comic not the cartoon, and found the comics vastly superior in every way. The cartoons seemed corny and silly to me even then.
Now as an adult I can watch them and see they were fun in their own way, but it is by no means my idea of the characters. Larry Hama's filecards and comics are definitive.
I guess for some people the toys are representations of the show's characters and vehicles, but to me, the cartoon was someone's interpretation of the original toys. I can appreciate customs or whatever that look like the cartoon versions, but I don't need or want cartoon accurate stuff in my collection (unless I think it looks cool on it's own merits anyhow.)

This show was the majority of my better years. No worries about
taxes, bills, etc. Only worries were what time to come in for dinner.

i loved the cartoon as a kid and kept up with the comics for a while, but, like aaron said, the actual toys are what i love most. as an adult, the cartoon hasn't aged well. honestly the old dvds with the first two mini series are enough for me. but i still dig the first four or so waves of arah, so the 25th anniversary stuff has become my favorite toy line ever, and i've been buying toys since 1977. so, yeah i'm way more concerned with original card art/action figure accuracy than sunbow accuracy.

I loved the cartoon as a kid. I had almost every joe figure from 82-86. I remember I couldn't wait for the show to come on.

Sadly, the Cartoon series never aired in the 80īs in the country where I grew up, which is Portugal.
It came to appear eventually on TV in the early 90īs but by that time, it did not had half the magic to me cause I was too much addicted to the comics storylines and found the cartoons extremely childish in comparison.
But I would love them if I had saw it in the right time, for sure.
I still have the 80īs series DVDīs, but iīm realy not a fan of the show.
I prefer the Resolute movie by far to any of the previous cartoons ever made about GI Joe.

Watching it as a kid, I was just blown away by the characters, vehicles, everything.
