So I am struggling with the idea of sending in some of my 25th collection to get graded. I just sent in my Doc figure yesterday, but $26 for the grading and another $12 for the return shipping is it really worth it to get them graded? I am not a hardcore collector, but I was wondering what others opinions were on this.

I don't collect AFA stuff due to the price, but I like the acrylic case.

if you are looking to resell these, then go for it because some dummies are willing to pay an arm and a leg for stuff that's graded. i don't understand that mindset but if you are looking to make some bucks and you have some relatively difficult items to find, then go for it. If you want to get them graded for your own collection and viewing pleasure, then NO it's totally not worth it.

There's pros and cons. It's really just up to you.

Assuming you want your mint carded figure to be a 'true' collectible in the sense that you have it well protected and professionally graded proving so. Perhaps 20yrs down the line when these are no longer in production and you'r elooking to put little Sally through college and bust out the C9 graded blue Wraith and find some schmo on eBay willing to dish out uber cash for it.
Lot of maybes. Or maybe you'll just take good care of your figures by way of gem cases and know that any true collector will see the value in a mint figure on card even though it doesn't have a grading. I think grading ought to be saved for those real hard to find rare or otherwise extremely expensive figures/collectibles that may one day be sold. Apart from that, save your money and invest in more Joes.

AFA?
I guess I am in a minority because I really don't care for the Graded figures. How much value do people think this stuff will have when there are so much AFA graded items being pumped out of Hasbro via their online store. My other problem with AFA is this. With all the negative feedback being put out by so many over the up and coming movie, do you really think the current stuff is going to have a fan base that will find these toys collectable? The pattern for a collectable is thus. Kids are exposed to toys, kids grow up there toys break, get lost or are disposed of. Kids grow into adulthood and get jobs. Adults earn disposable income. Adults desire to recapture the innocense of youth and thus rebuy toys they loved as a child. If todays kids don't latch onto Modern ARAH all of those graded toys will be worthless. Let me remind all of you how the collectable market spiked right around the release of the Death of Superman in the early 90's. That stuff is pretty worthless today, kids didn't embrace it only adults looking to make a quick buck.

Unless you've pulling a 9.5 it's often times not worth it. You pay for the grading service and it can backfire. If it's an 80, you'd probably sell the item for more loose. Same with sports cards. There are rare items which, when graded well, will be WELL worth the cost, but those items are few and far between.

AFA... only if you're doing it to sell it... otherwise, just get a clear container and be done with it.

Many thanks for the input, no need to put the Joes through until I am old and gray. Just needed some input to sway my wondering mind.
