I was watching that auction. Still good price tho. You could get a free case of that one fig. Congrats.

Three variations of Cobra Commander are known to exist: early versions had a darker hood than the rest of the body, while later versions corrected this. Still later versions had a more defined paint application on the buckles of the left leg.
|
Are the first and third the more valuable Cobra Commanders? Which one sold for $300?
Thanks.

The after that is the third one that is on the right with the belt buckles on the leg that are not filled in all the way with gold. That is the one I think someone mentioned that sold for $300 but it is by far not the rarest one. The most common one is the second one that is in the middle. This is the one that you can find all over the place.
I have never seen the dark hooded version out in the wild. As far as the one with the belt buckles on the leg that are not filled in all the way with gold, I've only seen that one once on a peg, but the bubble was loose so I left it. I ended up buying a loose one on ebay for about $5.00 because that's the only one I want out of the 3 variations. |

I did a MAD search for weeks to find that version because I liked the application better, but Hasbro has only sent the "gold filled version" ever since, & I have seen hundreds of this figure... he is definately rare.

I really can't tell much difference btwn the hoods. Do the date stamps indicate which might be darker? |

Something is only worth what someone will pay for it.

I've collected Joes since '82. Nonstop. Transformers since '84. I can't imagine just finding something new to collect because I already HAVE everythting else.
Even in the nineties, I stuck with Sgt. Savage and Extreme.
My love is for Joe and the universe, not whatever happens to be hot.
This raises an interesting question about collecting. Of course, it's probably best kept for another thread...

Do the date stamps indicate which might be darker? | From my understanding (take as you will), if the darker hood was an early release, then those date stamps probably aren't for the darker hood. The first you list is late 2007 and the others are 2008.
Plus, I think you should be able to see the difference. |
