Hasbro's 3rd G.I. JOE Q&A: The Answers!
Posted by Curto on August 20, 2007 at 09:33 AM CST: As part of Hasbro's bi-monthly Q&A session, Cool Toy Review passed on 5 of your burning questions and now we've got the answers for you. Cool Toy Review: Will there be more variations such as Snake Eyes' two different wolves? Will variations be limited to a recoloring of accessories, like two colors for Shipwreck's parrot, or will they be something more substantial that actually enhances the figures, maybe Night/Tiger Force versions? Hasbro: Check out Wave 3 for a couple more variants. Changes could be subtle or whole color changes...we really want to personalize it by figure. Cool Toy Review: Can we get re-releases of the USS Flagg and Terror Drome (With Firebat) ? Please...pretty please? Hasbro: At this time there are no plans to re-release the Terror Drome or USS Flagg. Cool Toy Review: Will vehicle drivers (such as the grey painted Cobra Officer for the Stinger-hint hint) be a part of the 25th anniversary line? Hasbro: Check out the Cobra Legions 5 pack and you will be very happy. Cool Toy Review: What are they going to do about the quality of the card backs on single Joes? I've seen the contents of three cases on different occasions and the cards are always warped or creased. For those who collect MOMC this is very frustrating. I know with such a large card relative to figure bubble that this is a possibility, but it never happened like this when they sold Joes 25 years ago. Hasbro: We hear your comments and have already made a change in the quality of the cardstock for future waves. There will be a thicker card back which will solve this problem. Cool Toy Review: There has been a huge rumor going around about the Iron Grenadier "Blade" Destro in the works. Can this be officially confirmed by Hasbro? I think that it is just speculation right now. Hasbro: This rumor will be officially confirmed or denied at JoeCon when we show the Wave 1 2008 single figures and you can see for yourself what figures are coming. Hasbro: Right now, all we can confirm is that the 8" line will continue through 2007.

What was the inspiration for the Customs that we saw at SDCC? Is there any chance that these could ever see production?
We wanted to do a shout out the the customizers in the community and show them how customizable the anniversary figures are. The inspiration came from the mind of one of our designers. We told him to choose anything he wanted that was not currently being planned. None of those figures will be out in 2008....but maybe further down the line [edit] As swapping out arms and chests is a big part of customization, what is the best way to take apart the chest of a 25th figure. 1. Take anniversary figures head and legs off, so only torso and arms remain. 2. Use either corner of table or block of wood with 90 degree angle and place the torso side that has the parting line on corner. 3. Take a rubber mallet, or small hammer, and hit the seam on the shoulder, cracking it open like a walnut. 4. Sides should split allowing for custom arms to fit into joints, glue back together with super glue. [edit] With the figures being so easily (partially) disassembled is there any chance for "Body Part Packs" with different heads/hands/webgear to customize our figures? Perhaps as a HTS exclusive? Right now there are no plans for this. [edit] When will the 25th see a wider distribution? Or rather better distribution. Check out stores now…we are in Wal-Mart, Target, TRU, Kmart, and many more retailers. [edit] Will all the 5-pack figures eventually be released as single figures? And will they be the same versions as in the 5-pack?

1) There have been some rumors in regards to the future of the 8" G.I. Joe line. Can you verify if that line has indeed been put on hold or "hiatus"? Any chances of seeing any 8" product in 2008?
Right now, all we can confirm the 8" line will continue through 2007. 2) Can we expect to see the single packs for sale on HTS? Yes. 3) There have been rumors that we would get one extra "bonus" wave in 2007. Can you verify if we will receive a fourth wave in '07, or will '08 wave 1 hit in time for the holidays? If everything goes according to plan, we will have a bonus wave right around the holidays. 4) Would you consider re-releasing the rest of the Marvel comic series on trade paperback, and what is your view on the Devils' Due series, is it doing what you would like it to do for the G.I. Joe brand as a whole? Like all GI Joe fans, we look forward to tearing through our Devil's Due GI Joe comics every month. As for the trade paperback, there are currently no plans to re-release. 5) Any chances of seeing some more 25th Anniversary style exclusives at Conventions in the future? Yes…but nothing annouced at this time. For now just enjoy Destro.

Q: Is there a plan to release the entire Marvel published line in Trade Paperback format?
A: There are no plans at this time. Is there a plan to release some or all of the comic series on DVD or CD-ROM? A: There are no plans at this time. Are there GI Joe/Cobra characters you consider untouchable for a possible comic book death? A: Definitely not. The 25th celebrates the past 25 years. It is not meant to be a snap shot at this point in time. Nothing in the history of RAH is off limits. Will we ever see some other comic created characters such as Candy Appel, Hard Master, Soft Master, Blind Masters, Shooter or Wraith made into figures? A: It's possible. The initial goal is to capture existing collectors as well as latent fans who haven't been involved with the brand for 25 years. Once we have captured everyone's attention, we have the ability to drive deeper into the fantasy. Will future comic packs focus more on the Marvel Comics (please!), the DD comics or a bit of both? A: As we have said nothing is off limits from the past 25 years. However just as our product has celebrated the "golden age" of RAH, any comic re-issues would need to begin there as well.

So two questions:
1. When does Hisstank get to ask questions? 2. Can I volunteer to talk with all these websites and not have questions getting repeated? |

1) Is there any chance of the cancelled DTC wave 4 figures being released in the 25th style?
More news on this at JoeCon 2) Will the comic two packs focus just on core characters or some of the more obscure characters like Cool Breeze, Mangaler, and Capt. Claymore to name a few? News on new 2008 items will be debuted at JoeCon. 3) Are characters whose art was used in the SDCC card set going to see release? (Major Bludd, Spirit, etc) Wave 1 2008 will be revealed at JoeCon. 4) As the line continues into 2008 (beyond the actual 25th anniversary year of the original line) will the line continue to be a celebration of the 25th Anniversary of ARAH or at some do you anticipate the line dropping the 25th Anniversary tag? It is too early to reveal too much about 2008…but the 25th anniversary is planned to be a one year event from start to finish. 5) As the line continues, will it focus on recreations of classic looks like the Duke, Cobra Commander, Destro, etc. figures, or will it focus on updated looks like the Zartan and Serpentor figures? Probably a mix of both with a leaning towards the classic look.
