you're lucky i'm not the boss here, you'd be ghost. | I did mean all that in sarcasm. My thinking was if they are so worried about the foreign market not liking an all American Joe team fighting a domestic terror group then maybe they will be happy if everything went the opposite way.
Naturally I would want the movie to be as close to the original material as possible. I don’t know how well some of the costumes would work on real people but I don’t see a need to change who the characters are and start making up new ones. It would be like changing Saving Privet Ryan so Tom Hank’s squad was made up of all the allied countries and the enemy was a nonspecific army so they wouldn’t offend Germans.
Please don’t hate me. |

you are right, maybe we should make all the bad guys Americans and we can cast Osama bin-Laden as ActionMan.

The "just cause" scenario is a set up for failure, time and time again this has proven true. They shouldn't even be worried, Cobra Commander and Cobra in general have nothing in relation to current politics, nor did they share anything in 82. Cobra Commander is a used car salesman of all things. His lackeys are a scottish arms dealer, a European diva with guns, a seemingly loyal ninja bodyguard, a bad poet with an eye patch, a schizophrenic bike gang leader and two twins who complete each others' sentences. Niether in the 80's nor presently do we even have an axis of evil containing that roster. Cobra is a timeless enemy, much like the Sith in star wars, an enemy that always exists, not some group based on whom the US is currently fighting. In fact, Cobra has never been that.
Adding Action Man "just cause" they supposedly "need more international appeal" is a stupid rational, when the roster was international to begin with. Fans and the populace alike will realize why Action Man was thrown in and will also say "he was put in just cause". No, a better idea is to put in another character with relevance to the story and plays a pivotal role, not just cause, but to aid the story.
A great story tends to yield good movies. Something "just cause" yields complaints all around. Lets hope they realize this.

I agree, leave Action Man out of it. But maybe its just the idea of different characters for different environs, like Wetsuit, etc. I dunno.
I wish they could just do the same thing for this movie as Hellboy, 300, Sin City. Make it more comics based and they would reap the rewards as would we.
Something else to think about is how Sommers dropped this movie so quick. I won't think too much into it now since it doesn't seem to be on stable ground to begin with. |

When its done and out will I go see it? Yes
Will I enjoy it as much as my son? Probably not.
I think my son will be more accepting of the movie than I will as I grew up being fed daily cartoons of the GI Joe we all know and love.
I'm not happy with everything news wise reported on the movie - but, if it means more toys get released than I am for that. |
