Not really a surprise.

2012 was just too soon. The script isn't done, cast isn't in place.

And would we really want something that got rushed to be the sequal?

Nope. 2013 works. Gives them a year+ to get it all together and done and ready.

Surprise or not, this is the 1st time they have stated a 2013 release date for GI Joe 2.

This gives us all of 2012 for more "Renegades" figures and hopefully some cool 30th figures, instead of Hasbro making movie figures.
