I am kicking myself for not buying the one I saw at Kay Bee Toys because I remember reading that it was going to be 50/50.

I've been a collector for a while, and that is one thing that I don't understand about us collectors. If something becomes rare, it becomes desirable, even if people didn't initially want it! If its not worth buying the first time you see it in the store, then (unless you just want to wait for a later time to buy it for money reasons, etc.), its not worth buying, right? Even if that toy is never released ever again, right? So why get upset? Are you wishing that you could have bought it so that you could re-sell it for a profit or something? I guess that I just don't get the idea of wanting to own something purely because it is difficult to come by, but maybe that's personal preference.

collector's mentality.
sometimes for profit, most of the time it's just to say you have something that is rare and not many people have. it's like bragging rights, of sorts. you try to rationalize something that cannot be. you can't change it nor try to make people understand it....it's just how it is, and always will be. rareity = value |

When one of my local Target did their reset on the Aug 2nd, I scored a black Timber. Although they only got 1 case of singles. Went back today and they got their 2nd shipment of singles (1 case) and there was a black Timber on the pegs. Someone bought a grey Timber, but left the black one.

I think XHairs hit the nail right on the head too. Back in the day when I saw PDD on a store peg, I remember looking at my buddy and saying "WTF IS THAT?!?!?! Who is ever going to buy that?!?!" Now look at the PDD Phenomenon. |

Okay, it looks like I was wrong about the Timber variants shipping 50/50, but I still think the black one is done. I checked the Entertainment Earth website, where they do a lot of wholesale and sell full cases. If you look at the link for Wave 1, you'll read that the case includes 3x Snake-eyes and 1x Cobra Commander:
http://www.entertainmentearth.com/pr...umber=HJ63403A However, Wave 1, Revision 1 includes 2x Snake-eyes and 2x Cobra Commander: http://www.entertainmentearth.com/pr...mber=HJ63403A1 My guess is that they took out the black Timber Snake-eyes in favor of an additional CC. I have noticed a fair number of CC's on the local shelves; far too many for only one per case. I think that those that are still seeing the black Timber are probably getting Wave 1 cases, which is being phased out for Wave 1, Revision 1. |

Had I seen Cobra Officer, how many would I have purchased? Probably multiples. But that's partly because of demand and partly because he is a great looking troop builder. On the rareity=value topic, sports cards from the 50's and 60's would not be so valuable if the Mom's of that era had not created scarcity by pitching them away. If every "rare" item were to simultaneously be posted on eBay, price and demand would rapidly go down. (Simple economics...) Some people want what is harder to find, and some enjoy the chase of the elusive. Like Outback said, "collector mentality." |

Good point Yorktown about the economics of the thing.
I picked up a single pack SS, SE, Flint, and CC, but no Cobra Soldier to be found. I bought one of each and left the rest (only about 4 single packs) for someone else. Haven't seen the 5 packs at all. These things are hot. |
