Snake Eyes isn't actually in this issue as much, he's there, but the primary focus is on Helix. Good if you like seeing her kick ass, but she's not portrayed the way she was in the 2009 1 shot. So if you liked her portrayal in that issue, you may be disappointed with this one.
Snake Eyes has a deus ex machina moment or two, but he definitely wasn't overused in this issue. By looking at the cover and preview it seems like he could be, but he actually isn't. |

Yeah he was. It was the Helix and SE show.
She is portrayed as "super" though. Atkins did a good job showing her ability to guess/sense/follow movement and anticipate where her opponent is going. The portrayal of both was too much for my liking.

It's not that I don't like Snake Eyes, not at all. I was there in the original run when we got to know him and he became cooler than anything my little kid mind could fathom. The problem is IDW has tried to mature the franchise but Snake Eyes is still the same super hero character. Which, ok, I can deal with, I guess the irrate SE fanboys would of been too much to deal with for IDW. But bringing in ANOTHER one like that?? Worst idea ever! First, I don't want to see another ridiculously over powered character, second, the part of me that still likes Snake Eyes is now ticked off as well, because in many ways Helix is his better, which is so stupid and ridiculous I do get angry about it. You don't try to downplay one charcaters super power status by bringing in one even more powerful....on the same team! Cobra having bio-engineered the perfect assassin to take Snake Eyes down? Now THAT would of been a good story.
As for the overall series...taken in bits every month it does blow. Sit down and read the whole thing in one sitting and it comes across much better. It's definately more for the action fans than the thinkers. GIJoe:Cobra is for the more in depth stuff. The regular title wants nothing to do with characterization. While Cobra derives it's story from personalities and their conflicts, GIJoe is just a straight up adventure comic, where the characters involved matter little, only the adventure is important. It's ok. But I do not think very highly of Dixon. It's all very forgettable. Atkins helps to make me feel better about my purchases though |

I can't even begin to describe how much I don't want to read this issue. I'm almost pissed it's in my box at the shop. The only way this can end to my satisfaction is if Chuckles shoots them both in the face at the end...

Honestly, I didn't think Snake Eyes was that bad in this issue. He's there, yes, but he's not contributing to most of the action, it's mostly Helix.

He's still Super-Snake-Eyes in this issue.

I'm hoping that with the new Snake-Eyes series on the way, maybe this one will focus on other Joes instead.
