I totally agree outback, i think that guy sucks terrible. and if he's made to be duke i would probably turn my back on this project, especially if dibonaventura pulls that "action man" crap on us! and i also feel you about megatron and the way transformers was handled (which could have been sooo much better) I guess the point i was inching towards is that no matter what happens with it or any other project with a rabid fanbase such as ours, it's never going to be as good as it could be. Ever. At least not in your eyes, or my eyes or even to my 11 yr old nephews eyes.
I think it;s like that with every licensed product though. Honestly look at the X-men movies. Not much like the comics in any way but the basis and characters are there and they're entertaining movies. Wolverine is supposed to be 5'3...hugh jackman is almost 6'3 but x-men fans were so happy to be seeing "x-men on a movie screen" that they didn't hoot and holler and gripe about it like they did with flames on optimus. |

exactly...
here's another example to match yours....Micheal Keaton as BATMAN. that little idiot is like 5' -6", BATMAN is supposed to be an athletic 6' - 2" (full head of hair) and sort of stream-lined looking. Keaton was possibly the worst cast for that role, yet people were so happy to see a movie finally made, that they didn't even care. BATMAN BEGINS was super to me....i loved it. very accurate to the comic down to the white eyes of the Dark Knight when he's in costume. ::crossing fingers:: |

Regarding the new Joe director, I think that he sucks, and the movie will suck, but. . .last I checked, few people have ever gone broke underestimating the public's willingness to consume crap. There is so much bland drivel out there (movies, TV, music, food, etc.), that people consume in droves, that you can understand it. I mean, Transformers was, in my opinion, a mediocre movie that would have been way, way better if nearly anyone else had directed, but, people still saw it, because it was Transformers. Paul W.S. Anderson is given all kinds of potentially great franchises (Aliens vs. Predator; Resident Evil) and makes money purely based on the brand, as the guy has no talent whatsoever and makes crap movies. But someone thinks that he is partly responsible for making the money on DVD revenues from those crapfests, and so he gets to make Castlevania: the Movie, which will, mark my words, suck ass. GI Joe will no doubt be the same.
When Anthony Anderson as Roadblock makes unfunny, racist jokes, Cobra Commander is played by John Travolta channeling Battlefield: Earth and Swordfish, Lindsay Lohan is Scarlett, and when Snake Eyes is played by a talkative, annoying Chris Tucker (this is part of a fuller list of garbage characters that I recently predicted will be cast on Yo Joe's site based on the ridiculous directorial choice), I will be far less than surprised by the crappiness of the whole thing, or by the 100s of millions of dollars that the stinker makes. |

....you're getting me pissed now man, i think you just ruined my day..oh wait, my girl holds that job. |

if any of the above happens i will not only boycott it but i will find lorenzo di bonaventura and break my foot off in his a$$! Seriously I think you're going to an extreme there but I agree with you about people allowing themselves to be spoonfed garbage. as far as his movies "sucking" ....to each his own. I thought van helsing and both of the mummy's were way too CGI dependant and went waaaaay overboard with total disregard for the audience. at the same time some of the "actual filmmaking" in those movies is outstanding! especially given the sheer scope of those films. it's easy to watch something and say "meh, that sucked" but it's much more constructive to identify why it sucked. Even the great directors make total crap every now and then. spielberg, kubrick, mctiernan, mann, cameron, etc.. |

Even so if you got a Ray Park-type as Snake-Eyes, you need a young, maybe 24-28 year old to play Storm Shadow... not an old man. no offense, but if you do that....YOU'RE FIRED!! PS - the ENEMY, i think i agree that this movie is doomed from the get-go. this sucks, because even though i was into Transformers as a kid, GI JOE was my favorite and would be greatly sadend by a screw up of this kind. Joe Odagiri might be a good Storm Shadow but I have not seen any ferocity in his roles. Maybe as a young Storm Shadow in training during a flashback. The guy from Transporter might make a good Snake Eyes. Do you guys think Monica Belluci would be too young to play Baroness? I think Willem Dafoe can play a good Cobra Commander. Dennis Leary might make a good Shipwreck given his sarcasm and brutal honesty. Quote:

In all honesty Jeph Loeb(Daredevil:Yellow, Batman:Hush), may work. If some of you remember, he did take part in creating "Commando" the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. I have a feeling Snake Eyes' role in this movie will be very similar to Bumblebee's in the recent tf movie: never gives up, no matter how damaged he gets. It certainly rang true for him in the 80's when he rescued Scarlett from the burning helicopter. |

I can't see Chris Tucker in a Joe movie. They can't pay for a full-on Hollywood cast for one thing. The movie isn't going to be Oscar worthy; its an action/adventure movie. I don't think they should be doing character assasination to make the movie more consumer friendly, but as you know, GI Joe/Hasbro in itself is a product.

i say bring in all no-name actors/actresses and it will work.
i am feeling that idea of latter-day vet types as in older, JOe's and it being relative to today. that would be a great idea and make sense to us JOE purists. ....keep'em coming. a real in-depth thread with super ideas. i like it. |

i promise you they will mix it up between the old and the new actors and they have the perfect characters to do it with. hawk, destro, cc, will all be old school types and the scarlett, baroness, duke, snake-eyes, storm shadow will be probably mid 20's to appease most of their ideal "core demographic"....kids who go cuckoo over toys! Either way they should stick to good character actors and not household names. Good nuts and bolts actors that can sell the plot in between things going "BOOM"
storm shadow = tony jaa snake-eyes = jason statham hawk = david morse scarlett = kate mara baroness = leanor varela destro = arnold vosloo c.c. = willem dafoe (there can be no other!) roadblock = terry crews duke = if it is mark wahlberg then so be it, but i think they can do much better stalker = michael jai white shipwreck = nick chinlund firefly = ray park major bludd = vinnie jones gung ho = steve austin there's some food for thought mr. sommers |

I just came across this over at IGN and I have basically decided to not post any more on this project until this is debunked:
G.I. Joe Not Really G.I. Joe A buddy movie with Action Man?! by Stax March 7, 2007 - Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has revealed that Skip Woods (Hitman, Swordfish) is writing the screenplay for the live-action feature film version of G.I. Joe. Woods reportedly segued to the project after completing rewrite work on Live Free or Die Hard. But fans should expect the G.I. Joe movie to be G.I. Joe in name only -- if the name is used at all. "Do you know Action Man? Action Man is the equivalent of G.I. Joe internationally pretty much. It's a different character, but pretty much the same idea and his name is Alex Mann. So we're creating a buddy movie between Duke and Alex. That's what we're doing," di Bonaventura told LatinoReview.com. "All the characters will be there, and it'll be really fun but unfortunately our president has put us in a position internationally where it would be very difficult to release a movie called G.I. Joe internationally in a lot of places. I'm a big G.I. Joe fan and to add one character to the mix is sort of a fun thing to do." The producer added that "Snake Eyes is a really difficult character" to translate to film and that the filmmakers will probably include Heavy Duty rather than Roadblock. Di Bonaventura's biggest problem is with how to bring the Joes' adversaries, Cobra Command, to the screen. "If you saw Cobra executed the way that it's executed in the animation and in the comic book onscreen you would laugh, I believe." He also reiterated that he wants Mark Wahlberg to play Duke. (a dagger in the heart for any RAH fan)! |
