[QUOTE=gunslingercbr;111498]
adults who remember G.I. Joe from their youth aren't going to go to the movie thinking that the characters are going to be identical from 25 years ago. "and we will all collectively LAUGH at what a wuss storm shadow looks like". |

there are only three key elements that define the appearance of Stormshadow -- asian, ninja, and dressed in white, which can be presented in many different forms, including this one. I'm not making it up, because nearly every different version of Stormshadow, either in the comics, cartoon or figure form, have shared those three basic qualities. apparently, Hasbro agrees.
I'm not trying to insult anybody, but I fail to see the logic. Perhaps somebody could clear my confusion up by telling me what the hell is going on with Storm Shadow being a Korean ninja. I guess my question then would be "is there no Arashikage"? |

I thought Lee Byung Hun was just a Korean actor playing a Japanese man?
I don't think Arashikage is even a Korean word or name. Is there a line of dialogue spoken in the script that actually announces Storm Shadow is Korean? Or was that a script note to the director since Lee Byung Hun WILL be a "well dressed Korean man" ?? Maybe he has mixed nationality, which would explain things a little. The Japanese DID occupy Korea for a significant time. |

No disrespect, but I was under the impression that the defining characteristic of Storm Shadow was that he was an actual ninja. I haven't read the script so I'm not really sure what's going on with Storm Shadow being Korean, but I fail to understand why so many people are upset with Ripcord being a black guy, yet don't care about Storm Shadow as long as he's asian. Most of my family is Japanese and I find it ridiculous that the japanese, korean and chinese are always lumped up as 'asian'. In my opinion Marlon Wayans was AMAZING in Requiem for a Dream and I bet he can pull his part off pretty well. Maybe I'm just being naive about the whole thing but it bothers me that people are getting confused with their racism here. Obviously everybody understands that black and white people are different, but do so few people know the difference between Japanese and Korean?

I think Larry Hama was brought in just to make sure nothing violated any of the characters and that they were recognizable in their new incarnations. nothing more, nothing less. but I am certain it wasn't to take the script and add to it every minute detail from the comics.
Hamma's part was probably minimal to say the least. I know he was not there to do a compleet over hual of the script, the costumes, actors ect....But the arguement was about if the producers cared about fanboy opinion. I think just getting him involved shows they are trying at least to appease some of them. |

That is of course your opinion, and one I don't share. Where that line is is relative to the person observing it. So I don't think you are anymore right in that than I am. Ninja's do not look like they are auditioning for Menudo. I don't care how you want to spin that, he does not look remotely like a ninja. And that's the last I'm saying on that topic. |

Well, Larry Hama was hired as a consultant; he wasn't brought in to "oversee" anything. I haven't seen anyone say the new story would be, "faithful to the comics," but no producer is ever going to say, "People who grew up reading the Marvel title will hate this movie," because that would just be silly.
