because it is inconceivable that a military soldier other than Flint would ever wear a beret? it is these types of narrow POV's that drive some of us crazy! (don't worry, I'll still keep an eye out for that Joe Ranking set for you )
and that drives me even madder. my childhood being raped? how do you rape a childhood? unless you still tear the sleeves off your t-shirts and wear a bandana, you don't think that you need to adhere to everything form the 80's yourself, so expecting that Hasbro or filmmakers today have to adhere to a 25 year old style either is hypocritical. We are all as hardcore as you and as knowledgeable of JOE or concerned about our favorite childhood toy/characters. Some of us were simply making observations on things we don't like. It is an opinion. Some were cracking jokes. Do we not crack jokes about Dr. Mindbender running around shirtless in battle scenarios. But we still love Joe. Secondly, your argument doesn't hold weight. While I agree the "raping my childhood" bit is extreme, some fans just don't like the tampering and altering of things they care deeply about. That's human and change for humans is often hard to accept. It is not hypocritical nor is contingent on us still wearing 80's fashions. It is after all, what we all care about or we wouldn't be on this forum. I just don't get the attitude. We're all joe fans, hardcore ones. I've got every comic and 1000's of figures. So what. We love JOE. Sure some may have more figures or more comics or can quote every comic like it's scripture but no one here is better, smarter, or more important than any one else. So what. We are all entitled to respect each other and our love of GIJOE and recognize that we all love it and see it in different ways. We come to this website to talk Joe, good or bad and last time I checked, there are no JOE police. We have moderators who all have varying opinions. Awesome. No need for confrontation or attitude because, again, we all come here to talk Joe, good or bad. I'm out. Peace in this forum and peace in the middle east.

the 85 Snake Eyes figure has lips. see, even when they adhere to actual design elements from the figures 25 years ago people complain, and you wonder why it gets annoying? |

WAY TO KILL A FRANCHISE GUYS.
This is impossible. Yes some of us don't like it. We are entitled to opinions. But GIJOE has been around for 25 years. I began collecting in 1982. These new toys are great and hopefully Hasbro will keep it going another 25 years. I know I'm looking forward to creating dios and playing with G.I. JOE toys with my son who's currently two. I'll support anything Joe even if I don't like the total product ie, the movie script, costumes, or lets say Marvel, when they introduced Battle Force 2000. I still read on and will still watch it.

there is no attitude, just addressing positions that just ring irrational to me. the complaints are incessant and inconsistent. like you said, people complain about change, and then complain when things are kept the same.

Didn't read any of the previous posts (too many), so I'll just go ahead and give my opinion.
I like the power suits (IF they are the power suits). I DO think they could have used some subtle color shades here and there (to make them more personalized?) but they are fine like this. Snake Eyes looks worse now. The rubber muscles look like shit. Hopefully it will work better in motion. Cover Girl looks like total shit. Hawk looks good, except that the GIJOE logo on the camo is D.U.M.B. (as worn by Cover Girl as well). Hawk's "sigil" is interesting but perhaps unnecessary. Baroness looks good without the shades but with them on... well, let's just say I've seen cosplay look better than that. Storm Shadow's interesting. He looks perfect in the suit. The second costume isn't bad but you just DON'T have him wear those stupid tennis shoes along with it. What the frack? I'm getting a Street Fighter vibe here. Still cautiously optimistic.

Well, GI Joe has been futuristic from issue #1 of the Marvel Series, so yeah, they have to.
perhaps you are joking, but it is the same type of complaint by others for any deviation of character design that they serious about, so it isn't the readers fault when they can't tell the difference.
no, it holds weight. we have all changed from 25 years ago, and so has Joe. if change was so hard as you claim, why are we all different than we were in 1983? seems like change is only difficult when it is convenient to criticize what is being changed. Slinger, Sure, people change through the years, we can't stop the affects of time on our bodies and minds but when some hold certain expectations or hold to certain ideas, images etc, it is often hard to let go. Again, that's what some fans are holding onto and that is human nature. We hold onto things we believe in or care about and don't want to see them manipulated. I don't find it convenient to criticize. Criticism is part of our lives. One can say they don't like Bush for this reason or that, they don't like Coke and prefer Pepsi and that they don't like Snake Eyes looking as buffed as Frankenstein. We all have that freedom in this country. We are all here to talk about Joe, good or bad. Period. There are no JOE police therefore no need to get annoyed over what people opinions are. No need to counter or attack. It proves nothing because again, we're all here because we want to talk or read about all things pertaining to Joe, good or bad. Yes 85 Snake had lips. Some people may still not want to see that and some may not want to se his face at all, ever. That's is okay. Let them be. You know Joe. I know Joe. Leave it at that and don't be so concern how others view this movie. We all know whether we like it or not, come August 9, 2009, we'll be in the theaters because... WE LOVE JOE. The problem with most of these angers is not that they aren't justified but that they aren't fully explained and usually ring to the tune of "this sucks and they're f-ing up Joe." That can never be a strong argument.
