Sigma 6 - Kung Fu Grip - Combat Squad Cancelled

Thanks to Tom Collins for sending us a report from the Hasbro Booth at SDCC that the G.I. Joe 8" Figures have no home for 2008.

Other than the items seen in the Hasbro Display Case at SDCC 2007, there are no further plans to produce previously announced Figures for 2008. This would include Zanzibar and further Waves of Combat Squad. Hasbro sights poor sales and ratings for the G.I. Joe Sigma 6 Cartoon.

*Correction*
Short Fuse is in the 2007 Hasbro Display Case.

Hasbro should do what they did for transformers next time around: partner with cartoon network, get a good time slot, and put vehicles out once figure saturation is established. Seriously 4kids was not the best place to put a cartoon on. As bad as some of the recent tf series are said have been written, there is no doubt that the sales for the toys were very good. A constant presence onscreen at a timeslot most fans and kids can tune into does more for a toyline than an inconsistent cartoon with a random timeslot on a channel most kids are no longer watching to watch cartoons.

Hasbro is already with cartoon network for transformers:animated for next year. Do this for gijoe and who knows how well it could get. For all we know, gijoe might become as big as tf.

It's too bad for the S6 collectors; there were a few cool figures. I, for one, am not a bit surprised about the poor sales. A lot of us were saying when S6 was announced that the figures were too expensive for kids, and too odd in size to facilitate adequate shelf space at retail.

Of course, I have no way of knowing for sure if those points factored into slow sales, but I'm sure it didn't help.

However, not only were the TF series poorly written but they were notoriously randomly scheduled on CN. You'd get afteroons at 6pm for a month, then mornings at 4:30am for two months. So there was never any consistent TF presence on CN. It is possible that GIJoe needs more media support than TF, though.

You are quite correct though, a true partnership - like with the upcoming TF Animated - will probably merit a better priority with CN.

Thats true. I meant to say that the tf cartoons were on tv more than the s6 cartoon ever was. Its definitely true that gijoe needs more media support than tf.

The 8" line was a good line that died young. For what its worth though folks, we are getting some of the best figures at the end of this year. At least we can say, it definitely went out at its best. The sad thing is, its future potential and its newest additions died in their infancy.

Two forums I been reading on have down that combat squad wave 2 is coming out. Plus justin post on tni that Short Fuse will be out in a Soldier assortment supposedly this late summer/fall. So I can not wait to see these. I like the new commando's coming out. The crime boss destro should look great by cobra commander.

Why is it when I come here the information does not match the other two or three forums HMM.... oh well! ? :(

From what I understand, the future of 8" is up in the air. They aren't necessarily cancelled, but Hasbro still hasn't decided whether or not to move forward, thus has no plans for additional products aside from what has been seen.

SDCC is still going on, so info is coming in fast but everything will be confusing until after the con is over. Short Fuse was shown in the display case(green guy with dreadlocks), as was Combat Squad wave 2, so they will come out. Anything planned for further waves after wave 2 will probably not see the light of day.

Add to that, Wave 2 of Adventure Team is on hold. If wave 1 sells well, wave 2 will be released.

So from what I've read over the past few days, this is what I've gathered:

*Figures in the display case will be released. This includes Combat Squad wave 2, soldier Short Fuse, Air Chariot Cobra Commander, Dojo Snake Eyes, 3 Samurai figures, Adventure Team wave 1, and the others shown in the case

*Wave 2 of Adventure Team is on hold pending successful sales of wave 1. Dusty and Gen. Colton were in this wave.

*Anything planned beyond wave 2 of Combat Squad is cancelled, as are future waves of the soldier assortment aside Short Fuse.

*Basically, all in all, whomever you do not see currently in the display case will probably not come out aside Adventure team wave 2.

**BTW Tom Collins is very reliable with info, all of his previous info both on transformers and gijoes has been legit and confirmed so far.
